Agreed, but it raises the question of just what is BG doing. He is supposed to be the WR's coach and the passing game coordinator. To this point the only progress I could give in this area would be the routes the WR's are running seem much cleaner. Other than that I wouldn't say he has produced much of a positive impact. Our WR's drop more passes than usual and there has been zero progress with JJ.
Putting Jefferson back in on the meaningless last drive was unbelievable. Miles didn't want him to feel that he'd been benched. Why is Jeffersons psyche treated with kid gloves? The message Miles sent to Lee was "We don't even trust you to hand off the ball". He walks on Lee's ego with iron boots. I don't get it.
After listening to several post-game interviews and some of what the local insiders have said, Miles doesn't have the slightest bit of confidence in Lee and is sticking with Jefferson for one reason only; He can run better with the ball. I chit you not. His reasoning appears to be that they both suck so at least Jefferson can run better. It seems since our defense is so stout and special teams so good, Miles is taking the approach that he wants the offense to do as little damage as possible. Run the ball as much as possible, avoid turnovers and hope for the defense at ST to score some points. So far his strategy has worked. The big concern is when LSU is behind 1 or more scores late in the game and has no choice but to go to a quick strike passing attack. Miles has invested everything in Jefferson and is all in. The babying of Jefferson is clear now. That is why he put him back in at the end of the game. He knows he is emotionally fragile. Jarret Lee will not see the field in any meaningful way unless Jefferson is injured or makes several critical turnovers and LSU's back is against the wall leaving Miles with no choice. Aside from the moral aspects of booing, LSU fans might want to seriously consider not booing JJ for selfish reasons. The pressure is getting to the kid and booing doesn't make things better. JJ is the starting QB at LSU and thats the way it is. Booing isn't going to make Lee see the field.
Increasing his changes of injury immensely and keeping 100% of the pressure on Jefferson. Playing two quarterbacks at least spreads the pressure and responsibility around a bit. Or when Jefferson goes down and Lee has to go in cold, with no warm-up, with no coach-up, and with no meaningful playing time in 2010. It may not be pretty and seems awfully unfair to Lee.
I think that depends on whether LSU is ahead or behind, and what Miles definition of "consistently" is. Miles is under the pressure and anything said with a camera or microphone in front of his face must be taken with a large grain of salt. Miles has coached timid and much more guarded since the NC of in 2007 and his big contract. He coaches much more to "not lose" than to win the past 3 seasons.
Agreed. We expected the O line to be the best ever last year and JJ to have improved this year based on Miles' comments. CLM lives in his version coachspeak these days.
