Should Glen Dorsey file a law suit against the SEC to protect himself?

There would be no legal recourse even if that block had ended his season at LSU and made it impossible for him to play in the NFL. It's football... sick as it is... Dorsey knew the risk of coming back to play another year.
I think Russell might have come back but this was something that helped influence his decison.
You can not sue for any future earnings when there was no base earnings to base anything on. Every college player knows and takes the responsibility of those risks... it would have been tragic yes but nothing legally could have been done.

I'd be willing to wager the fans are making a bigger deal out of this than Dorsey is.

There is a big difference between a "stronger message being sent by the SEC office" and Dorsey having a case to sue. Big difference. Neither are appropriate in my view.

I think we shouldn't make too big a deal of this. It was a foul, an illegal block, and should have been a 15-yard penalty--everybody agrees. It was a cheap shot by a freshman being owned by an All-American. Apologies have been made. But we don't need to stand on a chair and scream for suspensions and lawsuits.

We're going to have this happen to us some day, too. LSU is one of the most penalized teams in the nation and picks up a bunch of personal fouls. Tyson Jackson cheap-shotted Woodson with a punch in the head at Kentucky and we got a 15-yard foul for it. Should Jackson have been suspended by the SEC and sued by Woodson? He's looking at a pro career, too.

Interesting post...on the one hand you vilify what you characterize as "lawsuit happy attorneys" but on the other hand advocate filing what many would consider to be a frivolous lawsuit.
As others have posted, there really is no basis to file any suit....no damages were apparently sustained and even if there had been damage, it is football and such is an unfortunate consequence of a very physical sport.
Rather than a lawsuit, the SEC should simply grow a pair and do something and stop making excuses.

Well said. What the hell is our infatuation with being suit-happy????
