I have no issues with buyouts to protect the university from a coach who just bolts ala Saban ala Kelly ala Jimbo. But seriously Ed Orgeron was gonna leave LSU? Let’s say Ed wins a natty. Is he considering leaving for what is considered a better job? I don’t think so. As long as Ed just lets his coaches coach and he just continues to play cheerleader and speak to the media and hires the right staff he should be ok. But a buyout only hurt the University.
Unfortunately no buyout isn't an option because it would instill zero confidence in recruits and their families that the coaches they are committed to would be there when they were enrolled. Probably the easiest thing to negative recruit with by other schools. Buyout is too high but it has to be high and especially in the SEC. But F. King and Alleva should of shaved that number by a few million.
Funny you think Mike Riley is a head coach. Jim Grobe of the 1-11 at radioactive Baylor Bears? He says hired as a Babysitter, nothing else. BTW, Grobe makes 1.25 million a year, less than both of LSU's Co-Head Coaches Aranda & Canada, and far less than the 3.5 million dollar mascot Alleva trotted out as Head Cheerleader.

A lot of people think that. I just don't see it... I think he would be absolutely awful at it. It was painful to watch him in the studio for our Alabama game. It was embarrassingly bad.
