Looks like Decks was/is right on this one: From T-P.com: This gives LSU two open dates---Oct 21 and 28---one of which must be filled by an opponent. Glad to see LSU is being proactive in talking to schools now about a potential October matchup---the later you wait, the less chance of getting a respectable non-conference foe, as they will be in the middle of their own conference schedule. Starting now gives LSU a chance of convincing a school to flip *their* schedules, if necessary, in order to come to Baton Rouge in October.
yeah i still dont see why you help out your top opponent in the west... by scheduling this game at home early... it is such a big west game... i dont like it one bit... plus i think we need to play one of the following teams if we have to go 1-AA Cumberland (LSU 0-1 in the series) Haskell (1-1 in the series) Millsaps (1-1-1 in the series) Santa Clara (0-2 in the series) Sewanee (3-6 in the series) South Western Texas (0-1 in the series) These are the only schools in 1-AA or lower that we have losing records against... lets knock them out if we have to play a 1aa school....
I would much rather have this game played in October. It would be a great mid-season matchup and Auburn and LSU could both be undefeated in the SEC at that time.
Auburn loses about as much talent as LSU(if not more) for next season, so playing them early is not a problem IMO. It also will balance our schedule out with 2 home & 1 away for the entire season. Our young linemen(both sides of the ball) will get a tune up game with Tulane, play a mid level Pac 10 team, then it's time to get ready for the Barners. With the 2 dates(10/21 & 10/28) LSU has to find an opponet, this should give us more options into scheduling a decent team. Not expecting a BSC conference team, but maybe a CUSA, WAC or Mountain West opponet. We shall see.
