The way I remember it is that Randall got hurt at the end of the first half going out of bounds on the near sideline near about the UT 20. After that, he was mostly ineffective. I don't remember that game as a "Randall" tank. More of a "we can't cover or tackle #4" tank.
I agree it wasn't on Randall's shoulders, but rather on the fact that the defensive genius Nick Saban had no gameplan for how to contain Roy Williams.
I respectfully disagree- I remember us having 95 plays for 441 total yards to their 60 for 382 , we had possession for 2/3 of the game and ONLY punted 4 times. What?? I thought we lost that game........well, let me take off the glasses and let’s see............ Oh yeah, I also remember MR completing 19 passes on 46 attempts plus an interception...........that’s not mentioning his three fumbles- two of which were lost, or his three sacks for a loss of 30+ yards- throw the dam thing away instead of eating it! Williams (#4) had 1 carry for 39 yards, and 4 receptions for 142 yards. Take away a 75 yd. run combined with Selvin Young & Cedric Benson's 49 and 46 TOTAL yards rushing and I think it's fair to say Randal choked, but that's just my opinion and those are my reasons. :thumb:
And I remember that with about 3 minutes to go in the first half, Randall was 11/14 in passing (and had one completion called back for a penalty). I was at the game and I don't remember exactly when he got hurt. But he started very strong and ended horribly and at the time it was obvious to me why. I would need to go back and watch the tape because my memory may be faulty but I don't think that it is. And as far as "only four punts", well, we went for it 5 times (made it once) and kicked for field goals 3 times. As far as "Take away...". Sorry, you can't take anything away from UT. When it comes to time of possession, they did not need the ball for long. They made big plays and our defense let them do it. Not Randall. And that is my opinion and those are my reasons. :thumb:
