HS rating means NOTHING in the NCAA. it helps you get a good scholly, but it basically disappears after that. if top draft picks can flop, top HS recruits can that much more easily. i've seen him when he wasn't injured in '03...sucked. remember our 27-3 pasting of the tide in tuscaloosa? suck city! yes that was against one of the greatest defenses of all time, but he still showed me nothing....a whole lot less than manning or greene did that year. maybe he will do better this year, but given his troubles the past 2 years, i wouldn't call it likely. either way, that doesn't change the fact that what i've seen from him at the NCAA level has been nothing but suction.
Leak is probably the best SEC QB at present. Croyle is big-time overrated IMHO, I mean what has he accomplished? I don't have strong feelings about Ainge, haven't see enough of him. It's a put-up-or-shut-up year for Russell. He has the talent of Leak, but can't manage an offense consistently. Shockley is just not a top-tier QB, but neither was Rohan Davey before his senior year. Sorry, we've seen a lot of Clausen around here and he is just not an SEC quarterback. He should have transferred to I-AA where he could have been a star.
I agree that coming into the season that Leak is definently the front runner for the best QB in the SEC. However, i do dissagree with your assement of Russell. Now don't get me wrong. I am not one of those guys who thinks that Russell is god and the other QBs on our team have no shot of surpassing him (although i do beleive that he has a decided advantage over the others and it is his job to lose this spring and fall), but when i hear people say that he has not lived up to his potential i can't help but feel that type of critique should be reserved for at least a QB who has completed his sophmore year or had more than one season under his belt. Some people forget that last year was his first year of playing college ball in game situations. Yes he played like a Freshman at times, but he was a freshman. IMO Russell played very well for a freshman and at times he played like a senior. Don't forget that he showed that he had the ability to play well in clutch situations. Sometimes i wish that we would have kept him in the game for the entire Florida game (Before anyone flames me, i am not second guessing Sabans decision or saying that Randal should not have come in) I would have liked to see how he reacted to that horible start. It would have given us a real clue as to what kind of QB he is when faced with having to play clutch and fix his own mistakes rather than someone elses. IMO Russell will be our guy this season. As much as i like all of our QBs i hope we do not platoon a bunch of different guys at QB. I want to see one guy start the game (whoever he may be) from start to finish rather than bring in the backup when or if he struggles. I think that P-Lo will redshirt and establish himself as the next LSU QB after Russell (or perhaps even challenge him for the starting role, who knows?) and that sadley Flynn will be the Odd one out and perhaps looking for a transfer. Again that is just my opinion. Flynn or P-Lo could very well beat out Russell, but all i know is what i have seen. I guess that is why I am not on the LSU coaching staff, lol. As far as the Rankings of SEC QB's 1-5. Here is my picks. Coming in to the Season: 1) Leak 2) Croyle 3) Ainge 4) Russell 5) Shockley At Seasons end: 1) Russell 2) Leak 3) Ainge 4) Shockley 5) Croyle I admiditly see this through LSU tinted glasses so take that as you will.
Gues I am looking at it in 2 ways: One, the list of QB's next season doesn't impress me too much. Two, only 2 of those guys have had any impact in the NFL so far. Granted a few on your list haven't had the chance yet, but I also wuldn't hacve RP or JR even on the list yet.
I have seen nothing from BC to warrant praise. He's had a decent running game since he's been there and he hasn't done crap with their passing game. Max Howell & co. overhyped this kid bigtime.
This list makes no sense. You have the best qb in the nfl, involved with a HIGH SCHOOL KID, a 3rd team qb on denver's squad. Great sec qb's on this list: Peyton Manning Probably great nfl careers: Davey, Grossman, Potential good nfl qb: Leak, Jamarcus (pending mentality), Campbell good college qb's and thats it: Eli, Wuerffel, Quincy, Green, Mauck, Tee all others: Perrilloux There is only one great SEC QB in this list in the NFL. I think this shows the lack of talent in the SEC at QB. Leak being the only high NFL QB prospect IMO b/c of his running, passing, and decision making. How can Perrilloux even be PUT in this list when he hasn't even arrived on campus yet, the way people view Perrilloux around here is mind boggling.
davey, grossman more likely good not great nfl careers. Leak, Jamarcus, more NFL talent than the two above. Mauck likely a backup. eli, potentially good to very good nfl starter. the rest of the list is already proven to be unworthy of mention except quincy cocaine carter who is simply average. LSU made his contract.
I put Perrilloux on the list because I was responding directly to the assertion that the SEC RECRUITS AND DEVELOPS QB's POORLY. I even quoted the post that I was responding to (as I usually do) to help some of the less intelligent among us. How can I help you follow along? Are you telling me that Ryan Perrilloux, Chris Leak, and JaMarcus Russell are not sterling examples of the SEC recruiting highly-talented QB's over the last two years?
