With the Mississippi state loss, that moves LSU to the 4th rung after Bama, Georgia and Auburn. I will assume that even with an Auburn loss tomorrow and an LSU win, they would still remain 3rd ahead of us due to playoff ranking or whatever poll they are choosing to use? Is that cut in stone? Thoughts?
http://www.secsports.com/article/18165241/bowl-selection-process Confusing bit of a mess, but there is the selection process. Sounds like we're not sending the 2nd best team to the Sugar Bowl since one of the playoff semi finals is being played there. My guess is Georgia would have a good shot at playing in the Orange Bowl instead, maybe even the Fiesta? Auburn to the Citrus, LSU to the Outback?
I think LSU clearly leapfrogs MSU. If we win tomorrow, our SEC record is 6-2, MSU is 4-4, and we should be ranked higher. This article gives an intersting spin: https://www.seccountry.com/lsu/misssissippi-state-loss-ole-miss-lsu-better-bowl-game
Citrus Has to take the highest ranked SEC team not in the playoff or the Orange. If Bama destroys Auburn then LSU should get the bump. Orange Long shot. Bama beats Auburn but loses close to Georgia. With Miami out, Bama and Georgia get into the CFP and LSU gets the Orange. Other bowls The rest are placed by the SEC and the bowl reps. The Outback would be drooling to get LSU the day before a Saints game.
Good stuff, thanks. I really like the 2nd option, which could happen. The student schools the teacher.
Yeah, selfishly, I want Outback. If LSU ends up there, we're taking the kids and going to both the LSU and Saints game that weekend.
So LSU is currently 18th and Auburn 6th. Mississippi state already lost. We jump them. Washington plays Washington state,.so we leap frog one of them. Notre Dame could easily lose to Stanford on the road. Michigan could upset Ohio State at home. So at worst we're already 16th trying to close a 10 spot gap.
outback most likely...my understanding is that the citrus gets to choose and probably would not take LSU due to the poor attendance a couple of years ago
