I am all for having a Matt Mauck style of QB IF IF IF IF he can throw the ball to the wide open receiver. I love his cautious nature. Better to tuck and run for 2 yards than to throw the INT. Pull those safeties and LBs up to stop the Mauck threat and we have more chances to have wide open receivers. He MUST get them the ball. On this team, his running ability is an amazing threat. I think even more so than that QB from Arky (man can that guy run). Just because of Clayton.

Also, I think that he may stay a little more injury free running the ball than just taking the sack. As anyone who has played football knows, better to hit than to be hit. Moving forward and being in control gives him a better chance to stay healthy as opposed to moving around in the pocket until you become a DL sandwich. That type of foot injury could have happened more easily in a sack situation.

I think that if he can hit the blindingly wide open guy (you know the kind that didn't get the ball at the end of last season), we will be VERY successful with Mauck.

Ive got to disagree with this. When Mauck went out we were up 26-7, hardly an insurmountable lead for a Rex Grossman led Florida team. I have seen him put up 21 points in well under a quarter, and we had much more game left to play. He had only had 6 starts as a college quarterback ever. He needed big game experience more than anything. Had Randall gone in earlier, we could very well have lost that game.

And since we're being truthful, I wanted to see Mauck run up about 50 more on them. I would have been pissed had they pulled him. In hindsight, sure, I wish he could have avoided injury. But it seemed to me that night the light went on in Mauck's head, much like against the Vols, and he was going to punish the Gators. I just hope that light goes on early this year.

I had no problem with them leaving him in the game. Now I do question why he was running the ball up the middle at that point. Give the ball to a running back...
