give it up man..college will NEVER play 15 games year in and year out...last year, 3 teams played 15 games b/c of the longer schedule, the pre-season, and bowl game and that was a crap shoot i'm not saying a 12-3 team who just beat the top 5 teams in the nation doesn't deserve it i'm saying a team with 3 losses doesn't even deserve the chance at that
there is no tradition to be lost in other football divisions....there's no money to earn (eliminating regular season games eliminates home games therefore eliminates programs i.e. tulane, etc.)....finally, no one gives a shit what they do.... as far as basketball is concerned...DUH, regular season means a lot to determine your position in the top 64.....there are also 30 games compared to only 11/12 in football baseball is also a DUH comment....60 game regular season of course there will be a play-off....what idiot would just let the top 2 teams at the end of the season ....i mean why even play baseball if they did that
how do you figure that it eliminates anything? Are you aware of the business that is college football today? Are you aware of the money that schools are getting from TV and bowls today? Can you imagine the money to be made from such a tournament? Have you read my original thread....using the bowls as sites for these playoff games as to not "upset tradition". BTW, who says "tradition" is such a great thing? We've had quite a few "traditions" here in the south that weren't such good things, now haven't we? "Traditions" all started somewhere at some time. You just have to be unafraid of starting new ones...especially if they are better than the status quo.
doesn't matter how much money play-off games generate it is not enough to compensate for giving up home games
I'm more in favor of a BCS tweaking but quite a large one. There are still parts of it that make absolutely ZERO sense. One of the reasons I like the current system is that it makes every game so important. If there was a playoff, I definitely would not want a huge one. At MOST a 10 team playoff, but that might even be too much.
It doesn't matter how much money? Are you kidding? Why do you think the SECCG was invented...soon to be followed by the Big 12 CG? It's not because they lose money, I can guarantee that. Also, if the format used in the other divisions that do have football championship tournaments is followed, the higher seeded team hosts the game....which ADDS home games. So either your higher seeded team hosts, or they are played at neutral former bowl sites. Either way it's better than the system currently in place.
ok this is just dumb "which ADDS home games. So either your higher seeded team hosts, or they are played at neutral former bowl sites. Either way it's better than the system currently in place." what about the other 100 division I-A teams...are they just shit outta luck? and dont put words in my mouth "It doesn't matter how much money? Are you kidding? Why do you think the SECCG was invented...soon to be followed by the Big 12 CG?" i said it doesn't matter how much money playoff games would generate BECAUSE it doesn't compenstate for regular season hoem games i am all in favor for the SECCG and Big12CG...in fact i wish all major conferences had one
Who gives a crap about the "other" 100 division 1A schools? Get competitive, stay home, or drop to division 1AA. Who cares who wins the Humanitarian Bowl or the GMAC bowl? Who REALLY cares? Is college football as a whole done any major service by continuously adding new bowls so 6-5 teams have a place to spend the holidays besides at home where they should be? And you want to talk about "tradition"...."tradition" as I know it, there were only 4 bowls, Rose, Sugar, Orange, and Cotton. That was it. You were either in the top 8, or you stayed home. That changed, as did the way we determine a "national champion". The BCS IS better than the way it used to be, but not by a great margin. The BCS will change and we'll get some sort of playoff the year after there are more than 2 undefeated teams at the end of the regular season...or if there are no undefeated teams and an abundance of teams all with one loss. We will see changes. Take it out of the polls and the computers and settle it on the field is all I'm trying to say.
"Take it out of the polls and the computers and settle it on the field is all I'm trying to say." and so i am....16 teams is just too many....make it 4 or 8 at the most who cares about the other 100 teams? well i do b/c they wouldn't be around w/o any money and we need them to provide us with home games hate to break it to you, but we're not gonna bring the top 16 teams to tiger stadium for every single home game
