DallasTiger - I like how you convieniently chose 8 years to go back . .if you go back 9 . Auburn victory, if you go back 10 (which I think is normal) . Auburn Victory, if you go back 11 . .Auburn Victory . . that's 7-4. Also, you talk about bad teams in the 90's . . don't forget, your 1998 victory was over the worst Auburn team since the Barfield (pre Pat Dye) era. Southlink, your quote: "and let me give you some help. That wont matter one bit next year" . . I agree . .I wasn't implying that it did matter, just refuteing his back and forth comment . not sure if you meant to contradict me, or were simply making a statement. Regardless . .I agree.
Alabama could say that about Auburn since the series started. Auburn is ranked high and has a chance for their first SEC championship in forever, and all the AU fans talk about is Alabama. Now that is obsession.
I'm certainly not trying to be a peacemaker here. I was just thinking, though, that it is GOOD that LSU and Auburn have football programs that breed large numbers of highly passionate fans. Imagine how much less fun it would be if any of us were, say, Kentucky football fans or Vanderbilt fans. No one would give a rat's arse about us and any "rivalries" we would have would be lukewarm at best. I'm not a fan of the unseemly vitriol between LSU and AU fans that tends to creep onto this board, but on the other hand it is prefereable to not giving a damn about beating another school or having no one give a damn about us.
Re: Re: Teams I like and don't like Yeah SouthLink02, given how UGA handled them in the SECCG and how AU has railed UGA over the last 4 years I am as shocked as you are at the pretenders success.
All coaches do it Chuck. It's normal, routine. It's mutual respect among the coaching fraternity. When Tubby does it, it's news.
Teams I respect: Tennessee Georgia Teams I don't care about: Ole Miss South Carolina Vanderbilt Kentucky LSU (I don't have anything against them, their fans are just like any other SEC football teams fans.. great!... except Vandy fans.. hehe) Teams I don't like: Florida Alabama Miss. St. (Just because they ring those cow bells of theirs) I read something earlier about someone hating Miami because of their weak schedule! I totally agree.. If they were in the SEC.. I doubt they would have their perfect seasons every year. Go against atleast 2 or 3 of these (Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Tennessee, Alabama, and LSU) in 1 year, very hard to do.
Time for some facts First of all, Tuberville is 5-3 vs LSU, having lost his first two games against us in 95 & 96 at GTHOM. Sorry, but that isn't owning. I was at the 97 game, and I think a lot of the resentment of him stems from then. That game was the week after the Florida game, and was a disaster. I watched way too much GTHOM celebrating that day. Secondly, AU and LSU have played 11 times since the divisional format. In those games, both team ended the season with a winning record 6 times (95, 96, 97, 00, 01, & 02). The record for those seasons is 3-3 with LSU winning in 95, 96 & 01. AU has ended the season with a winning record while LSU had a losing records in 93 & 94 and won both of those games, i.e. beating an inferior LSU team (AU fans will find no LSU fans who praise Curley Hallman's teams). During those years, LSU has not finished the season with a winning record while AU had a losing record. Both teams had a losing (or .500) record in 92, 98 & 99. AU is 2-1 in those seasons (92 & 99). Those two wins came at Tiger Stadium against the two worst teams in LSU history (Look it up). The loss came in Auburn with a team Tator Tot would abandon about a month later. Certainly not a lot to put a reputation on. The point is that, when both teams are good, they are about even. AU fans don't have to tell LSU fans that the 90s were bad. But to say that either team has much of a upper hand is also stretching the truth. Auburn's advantage during that time was built on beating LSU teams that we try not to remember GEAUX TIGERS THORNY (Alias "Statman")
Nice work Thorny. It reflects what is pretty obvious when fans of both schools take off the glasses. In recent years, LSU and Auburn are pretty darn close when it comes to the football totem pole. Neither team owns the other. I think another reason this rivalry is so heated is because both programs seem to be on the rise at the same time. Both teams have coaches that are in the national spotlight. There have been some incredible games recently and of course the soap-opera material that has occurred. Top it all off with the fact that both teams are widely considered contenders for the SEC West Champ and SEC Championship. Add it all up and it's not hard to figure out why fans of both schools have been at each other's throats. Man Oh man I can't wait for the season to start!:geaux:  :cuss:      (me during the average game )
hopefully . .the combined superior intelligence posts of Pastimer, texascajun, Thorny, and Brett can end this thread . .I must say I completely agree with all 4. . .
