sounds like you fell for the same lie that many of our senators did my friend. there was absolutely nothing in the language of the bill that would create a national gun registry and for that matter, neither was there language that could legally lead to a national gun registry. the two authors of the bill, Toomey and Manchin, are NRA members and they explicitly said that this bill would not allow for a national gun registry. look, 90% of the American people supported expanding background checks. 90 freaking %, dude! This is a classic case of money winning out over the will of the people.
We don't need anymore gun control. Enforce laws already on the books. Nothing in that bill would've stopped another shooting.
Huffington Post is an f-ing Rag. Quotes without context are misleading at best. I am in favor of the Supreme Court throwing this Act back to Congress to be re-looked at and re-written. Congress has been rubber stamping this act without any revision whatsoever. The Voters Rights Act was written for a different place and time in American history. Things are not the same as they once were. Also, this law should be universal, not just include certain states. You Democrats and liberals should agree that laws need revision.
I said the debate, not the any particular bill. Damn I hate seeing these replies when I am on my phone and can't conveniently elaborate. :-(
ricin letter guy. You want background checks? I have a simple solution. The seller just has to ask democrat or republican.

this isn't the first time that Scalia has said as much in the past 2-3 weeks. I would agree that Huffington Post is left leaning but they are not the only ones who've reported these statements. What would you revise about the act?
Yes I know when Scalia takes off his robes, he grasps the golden mike at the EIB with his formerly nicotine stained hands. His consertavism works in reality about as much as Obama's liberalism and his quotes don't win many to his point of view. The Voting Rights Act pre-clearance provision is a political sham these days. A few states are held down by the Justice Department, which in itself is a political entitiy, while the remaining states suffer no burden of proof?
