1. I know you're no Saban lover, but I don't buy into the thought that he's the best of our age. I believe that any of the championship coaches of the last decade could have similar success at Bama, simply because the best kids want to play there and the best coaches want to coach there. They have an unlimited money supply, media deferment, history, and access to the best athletes in the world, being located in the very center of SEC country. Any kid from Louisiana to Florida can go play there and drive back home to visit their family in a day.

In short, Bama was Bama long before Saban, and will be Bama long after. They created his legend just as he is helping to continue theirs. Miles would have the same success there that Nicky does. So would Stoops, Carroll, Tressell, Kelly, and a short list of others.
  2. If Miles can put together anything like his 2011 squad again, I'd say he's on par with Saban.

  3. And don't forget they get perpetually favorable schedules.
  4. If you have 4 years to develope a championship team from scratch, and you only have the two coaches (Super Gump and Leslie) to chose from. Each coach will have access to the same quality facilties, and will play the same schedule. Who do you think will have more success?

  5. I think the difference would be so slight that it would almost be unmeasurable. Bama is a good match for Saban and his style. He is the bear reincarnate. Without Bama, Saban is good, maybe great, but not what he's pumped up to be today. Miles wins almost as much as Saban does, and he does it with a harder sked, lesser talent, and media bias at every turn.

If it's a coin toss, I'll take Miles and his goofy personality, caring attitude, and genuine likability.

  6. To an extent I agree.

Right now, Saban has a clear edge and is the best coach in the nation. Just my OP.

Miles has the resources to do what Saban is doing. It is just a matter of him getting it done.

We have the talent and resources. Miles just need to get the damned O figured the fuck out....
  7. If last night's game was Notre Dame's best, LSU, Florida, A&M, Georgia, South Carolina and maybe Arkansas could all have beaten them this year. Not taking anything away from Bama, but the Irish were outed last night.

  8. Eh, when the steriod scandal at bama leaks, the whole thing will come crashing down, and we'll have to re-visit our thoughts.
  9. So then why is it so unreasonable to believe the same could not happen at LSU?
  10. Here's my thing, while Les has a proven record, it really seems to me that Dick Satan can just insert any d coordinator or o coordinator he wants and can win. With Les, it's not like that. You could argue that Les has in fact won with shitty offensive and defensive coordinators, and you would be right, it just seems to me we have to have elite coordinators to win a championship. We have never really had both at the same time except with Jimbeaux and Beaux Beaux, and that year was Katrina year so they get a pass. With Saban it's like he could win with Eliminator55 running the O and Helsfury running the D. Or, does Saban just really know how to choose his assistants? The Chavis hire for Les was a home run, best move he's ever made, now I just wish he'd go out and offer David Cutcliffe insane money to coordinate the O.

And as far as comparisons go, Les to me is the Tony Dungy type, nice guy father figure coach, where Saban is Belichickian and all business, but a real douchebag.
