I don't feel that way at all. Sometimes, you may hear people say that the "bad" fan base probably didn't even go to the school because that's a way of saying that the rednecks who curse and act obnoxious are uneducated fools. However, an education doesn't really insulate anyone from being a fool, does it? But, I, for one, don't care if a good fan is an LSU grad or not. Just as long as he or she loves the Tigers!
I went to LSU for a semester and before I left, every single person reminded me that I could "always be a tiger fan, even if I didn't go to classes there." Anyone can be a tiger fan. I was born in Louisiana and raised in Louisiana and I have always been a Tiger fan...
My sister and brother-in-law went to USM and then she went to Loyola law school. We grew up LSU fans, but she just decided to go to USM since we were living in the same town and had also become fans of USM. I think my sister gets more fired up about LSU sports than anyone. They have season tickets for football now that they live in BR. My boss did not go to Oklahoma, but he is a huge fan of them and always has been. Besides you did go to LSU. It does not matter that it was not the BR campus. Regardless of this you and your wife (and others like my sister) have as much a right to be Tiger fans as anyone who went to school at the BR location.
Couldn't get there myself but did the next best thing...sent my offspring, now a graduate. Don't worry about what some Georgia cracker thinks. As Coach Saban said, there are no fans like us !!!!!
ahhh...I am not the only person who gets the "you did not go there" treatment. I grew up in Louisiana, cheered for LSU since I was out of diapers. When it came time to go to school, LSU was not an option for many factors, one of which was the wishes of my dad. I went to Baylor, but towed the LSU bandwagon there...probably attended more Tiger games then Bear games while in college. Even today I go to way more LSU games ( I actually have yet to go to a Baylor game since graduating) then anything else. I bleed purple and gold, and my friends here in Texas give me hell because I cheer for a school other then that where my diploma is from. I just tell them they are jealous and remind them how badly Texas and Texas A&M suck. I have never not felt accepted by other LSU fans..... Don't worry about it, tell people to F off that give you hell about it.
Some of the biggest Tiger fans I know never went to LSU, never even grew up in Louisiana and never lived in Louisiana...being a fan of LSU sports is being a fan of college athletics, a fan of kids from the State of Louisiana and the surrounding areas playing for our state school. LSU represents Louisiana, bottom line.
My wife is from Orlando and was a big......puke.... Gator fan when we met. When we moved back to B.R. in '91 I started getting season tickets again and she goes to every game. Her....puke....Gator gear has long ago been given to the Salvation Army and her closet is now filled with Tiger gear. SHE IS A TIGER FAN PERIOD!!!!! It doesn't matter where you and your wife went to school the only thing that matters is that you are either a TIGER or TIGER BAIT!!!
It takes an LSU degree to be an LSU alumni. All it takes to be an LSU fan is to follow LSU sports. Well, you gotta own something purple, too.
You don't have to be graduates of a Unversity to be considered fans. If that is the case Notre Dame would only have 50,000 fans. LSU is the state school and everybody from Louisiana can all say they are fans.
