a better philosophy is to take the correct stance, even if it is extreme, regardless of the side of the spectrum that view is from. the moderate stance is generally the stance in between two terrible stances. often the correct perspective is more extreme than either side. if we had two parties, one communist and one socialist, would you still see the value in being a moderate between them? i agree with some republican stances, but i agree with it more than they do, same thing with democrats. if you have an actual philosophy, (for example mine, which always favors much smaller government except in cases of security) then you are not arbitrarily picking and choosing centrism, which, like i said, is defined by the extremes of the current parties. this is like the prisoner's dillemma. taking the high road strategy only works if the other guy also takes it. and in this case, you cant trust the other guys, so the realistic thing to do is pick a guy who who most agrees with your politics and keep winning the presidency so you get to make the appointments. this wise non partisan character you speak of doesnt really exist. like sourdough said, everyone has an opinion on abortion, you either agree with it or you dont, and the smart thing would be to pick the guy you agree with, not seek out some sort of non-existent nonpartisan wiseman.
yeah when i am in hell i will realize that our god is a loving god. as i burn for eternity. it is nothing more than i deserve for being rational. yeah thats nice. free speech sucks huh.
i believe you should worship me and send me 100$ or i will send you to hell. to be cautious you do it. i might be wrong, but yunno, just to be cautious. also you dont really understand how rational minds work. a rational mind cannot force itself to believe in sorcery any more than a dog can force itself to be a cat. it is not my choice to not believe. it is impossible for me to believe. if i told you i believed, i would be lying. this is such a simple concept, yet so many christians do not get it. i cant convince myself of nonsense. i cant make myself think that if i suicide bomb i get the 70 virgins, i cant convince myself jesus is a magic man who will send me to hell. get it?
No, but sadly my friend, you will one day. We screwed up the thread. Democrats suck. O'Connor is a witch. Bush rules! There, now we are back on track.:thumb:
Good point, getting the thread back on track... O'Connor was actually appointed by Reagan, who I'm pretty darned sure was a Republican. :hihi: I'm taking an ABG position on the newest justice. Anybody But Gonzalez.
If you live a law abiding life, you have nothing to fear from Gonzales or whomever Bush appoints. If storm-troopers invaded my house to search for evidence that I was a terrorist, they wouldn't find anything. It would be a hell of an inconvenience, but I'd get over it. An extreme example, of course, since they'd have no reason to believe that I was a terrorist, but, if they had the goods on some one, I'd just as soon have them ransack his living area, just to be sure. Don't be such a "protector of civil liberties". No one's going to violate you.
The robots have definitely stolen your luggage, amigo. An anonymous character on the internet boasts of a high IQ. Did I ever mention my medal of honor, my pulitzer prize, my Honus Wagner card, my olympic gold medal, or the fact that I'm loved and admired by big-hootered women around the world? It's got to be true, we saw it on the internet. Who says he doesn't exist? Maybe not in your black & white world. Sandra Day O'Connor is such a justice. Reagan appointed her and she has been a non-partisan moderating influence on the court. There are many others. And like many things, Sourdough is confused about absolute truth, too. Many, many people have mixed feelings about abortion. I don't like the idea of abortion, but I can't support the fundamentalist position that it must be forbidden in all cases, even if the life of the mother is at risk. And in no case can I support the notion that the government needs to be involved in a personal family matter such as procreation. A woman should have guidance from family, doctors and her religious counselors, but not edicts from politicians. Mixed feelings. Gray areas. Middle ground. Non-partisan wise men. They exist and you know it. Perhaps you don't understand it, that's fine. But to deny their existence is to deny reality and you are not a fool.
