Nonsense, there is no absolute truth. This is not a black and white world, there are many shades of gray. There is quite often a middle course and it is very often the best route. Many, many people have mixed feelings about subjects like abortion and the separation of church and state.

I realize it is hard to see the middle from your position out there in right field. One of the problems with an extreme position is poor perspective.

Your idea of poor perspective is just a matter of perspective. I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict a very conservative judge appointment. We have the senate, we have the house, and we have the presidency. I don't believe that the other side would show any "good will" if they were in our position.

red, sometimes i think your devotion to moderation has you as short sighted as some party loyalists. but i have been over this before, so i wont bother you with it. i will just say that i think the center is defined by the extremes, so it is isnt so reasonable and thoughtful as it is arbitrary.

but dont get me wrong, 157 is wrong here.

although i do not have trouble with choosing judges based on their politics. as a president, i would feel like that was my right. we can sit around and pretend we could appoint some solomon who is independent of everything except being wise and noble, but it isnt gonna happen. it is perfectly reasonable to litmus-test a guy on something likie abortion, particulalry if jesus told you abortion is murder.

    i agree entirely.

if i was president i would find the guy who most often takes the laissez faire outlook on all topics. the guy who stands against things like campaign finance reform and this new public/private use land grab crap.

one last thing, i dont think i have ever heard the term "activist judges" used by anyone who wasnt a silly christian. if someone is critical of an "activist judge", generally you can write tha person off as an eyes-closed mindless christian zombie.

Only at TigerForums. A Constitutional Law professor I had was probably the most "liberal" (by US standards) person I've ever met, and "activist judge" was among her favorite things to say.

Just remember that a moderate position doesn't always mean a slavish devotion to dead center. Moderates are also free to take positions to the right or the left if it seems the better course. Pragmatism is more important to moderates than ideology.

I think America is better served if the judiciary stayed well above the "us" and "them" of the politcal arena. We should have judges that pride themselves not on being political but on being judicial. Impartiality, intellect, and integrity should be the hallmark of a Supreme Court Justice, not his political leanings.

Republicans often forget that the democrats once controlled everything, too, and will one day return to that position. This country is fairly evenly split politically, the republican majority in the 2004 presidential election was 2%, in 2000 it was non-existant. It won't take much for the moderates to swing to the other side, as they do from time to time.

The wise decision for people with lifetime appointments is to elect someone who is above the politics. And insist that your opponents do the same. The bitter partisan politics in this country are pitting us against each other instead of uniting us. The judiciary, at least, must be looking out for the common good of all citizens, not just "their" half of them.

The smart move for any president is to select a Supreme Court judge who is respected across the political spectrum and who doesn't have a political issue to promote.

    "What I Believe."

I believe in rainbows and puppy dogs and fairy tales.

And I believe in the family - Mom and Dad and Grandma.. and Uncle Tom, who waves his penis.

And I believe 8 of the 10 Commandments.

And I believe in going to church every Sunday, unless there's a game on.

And I believe that sex is one of the most beautiful, wholesome and natural things.. that money can buy.

And I believe it's derogatory to refer to a woman's breasts as "boobs", "jugs", "winnebagos" or "golden bozos".. and that you should only refer to them as "hooters".

And I believe you should put a woman on a pedestal.. high enough so you can look up her dress.

And I believe in equality, equality for everyone.. no matter how stupid they are, or how much better I am than they are.

And, people say I'm crazy for believing this, but I believe that robots are stealing my luggage.

    And I believe I made a mistake when I bought a 30-story 1-bedroom apartment.

And I believe the Battle of the Network Stars should be fought with guns.

And I believe that Ronald Reagan can make this country what it once was - an arctic region covered with ice.

And, lastly, I believe that of all the evils on this earth, there is nothing worse than the music you're listening to right now. That's what I believe.

I am on the right side in terms of morals and ethics, but not so much politically. I am not sure where I stand on this war. I am definitely for some kind of health care reform (I pay 300 a month in insurance and still have to come up with 100% out of pocket almost all the time).

Again, the biggest lie that man ever believed was that he could determine for himself what the difference between right and wrong is. Sadly, most of humanity believes that lie.

No, you are wrong. Too bad that it will take your death for you to find that out.

Those who you call "eyes-closed mindless christian zombies" care not for your opinion or of those sharing like opinions.
