Ever since Terry Baker of Oregon State beat out Jerry Stovall, the Heisman has been dead to me.

prolly because the Heisman winner isn't ever on the best team, nothing more, nothing less.

    Danny Wuerffel

Was also thinking Chris Weinkie, but I believe he won it in 99 and Oklahoma beat them, not in 2000 when they beat VT.

Didn't Wuerffel win the NC in '96? Was that not the year he won the Heisman?

They should think about looking in the SEC more. Then MAYBE they'll have another Heisman Trophy winner win the Natty Championship. :hihi:

But seriously, the Heisman is an individual award based on a player's body of work over the course of a season, and the National Championship is a team award based on (in the end) one game. They are completely unrelated. See Tebow's Heisman year for an example. He was the best player in the country, even though his team wasn't even on the radar.

That isn't the norm. It was a down year for contenders last year, along with injuries. Plus Tebow hit that 20\20 mark and that really put him over the top. It's usually the best player on what is considered the best team by the media.

Backwards. He won it in 2000, and they beat VT in '99.
