Now, we have attorneys filing lawsuits against the league. Making it clear that I think this was incompetence, not a conspiracy, I don't think you go after the league on this. Go after the 2-3 individual refs who watched the play and were in position to make a call, actually huddled for a moment, and didn't fix the problem. Hold them responsible as individuals. If a creative lawyer could make a case that at least looks strong, and could fix a realistic dollar amount as damages, then....if there were a conspiracy (there wasn't), one of those guys would crack and spill.
Who gives a shit about any dollar amount? Gail Benson already has more money than God. I know it won't happen but it would be only right if some judge would grant an injunction against the league preventing the Superbowl from being played until a just resolution to the situation could be implemented. I don't care if the Superbowl gets postponed until August. There is precedence, although not through the legal system to grant a do over. When George Brett hit a home run for Kansas City against the Yankees and tbe ump took it away because Brett had too much pine tar on his hands the league reversed the umpire's call and made the teams play later from the point of the home run with the homer count.
The fight went to a decision after 12 rounds. A pretty even fight but in no way did Spinks have enough of an edge, if any, to take the belt from a titleholder according to the unwritten rule that to beat the champ clear dominance must be demonstrated in order for the title to change hands.
My point about the dollar amount is only to scare one of the refs in the non-existent conspiracy into giving up the goods. If you get one of them to admit there was a fix, you have genuine ammo for getting the commish to replay the game.
I don't believe it was fixed but certainly gross negligence. If you kill somebody while driving recklessly you wouldn't have the specific intent to kill but you could be charged with negligent homicide.
As hard as Goodell pushed for not 1, but 2 L.A. teams, I find it not completely out of the realm of possibility that there could've been some, "if the opportunity arises..." type shit going on. You can't tell me an L.A. Super Bowl team Is not more financially appealing than little old New Orleans where fans can simply drive to the game for 1 night in relatively nearby Atlanta...(yes, I have a tin foil hat on, lol...)
