Melo was back in 03. I know this because I was in basic training at the time and that and the toppling of the Saddam statue was the only things I got to watch on tv for the entire time.

Studies have shown that the "field turf" style artificial turf is actually prevent impact injuries that occur on natural grass by providing consistent G-Max Rating. The maintenance costs are nil compared to real grass and you really can't tell much difference until you lie face down in it. Regardless of the weather the field conditions are the same as it sheds water remarkably well. The "soil" is make up of rubber pellets that allows water to drain into the sub-base below. I remember reading somewhere that it can drain like 24" of rain per hour.

As for the Saint's permanent home, something WILL be done folks. Even if the Saints leave, something will be done. The state makes more money off the Superdome on days the Saints aren't there than when they are there. They need someplace to hold the cars shows, conventions, Sugar Bowl, Bayou Classic, etc. That's also the reason we won't see an open stadium. As far as retractible roofs, I've heard that the Texans have issues with it all of the time not to mention it would get ripped off the first time a Cat 3 blew through NOLA again, I bet.

I'm hoping for a complete gutting of the place and renovation. Start over with nothing but the shell and build a new stadium inside of it. I just can't picture the NOLA skyline without the Superdome in it.

Wildcat's right. the Final 4's (both men's and women's) have always been played in the dome. now, there may have been a women's regional played in the NO arena recently. the arena is too small to host a final 4.

This is from the New Orleans Arena website:

    Home : About Us

    Home of Major Sports Events

    New Orleans Hornets (NBA Basketball)
New Orleans VooDoo (AFL Arena Football)
    Tulane University Basketball
    NCAA Women's Final Four
    NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship (2002)
    NCAA Men's Basketball 1st/2nd round (2007)
Southeastern Conference Men's Basketball Tournament (2012)

Now I was wrong about the first round of the mens tourny being played there when I said that. BUT the womans FINAL FOUR WAS PLAYED THERE!

okay, I stand corrected, but there is no way the NCAA would host a men's final 4 there. not enough seats.
