As long as the Saints are the New Orleans Saints, their stadium will be in New Orleans. No questions about it. It's the main reason that we have the record number of Super Bowls and we have the national championship every few years. The Superdome site is in the heart of a huge tourism city. It would not make sense to make the permanent home anywhere but downtown New Orleans.
Not to mention the transportation situation, freeways, etc are better than any other place in the state. Traffic is already bad enough in Baton Rouge now days, Imagine all those Superbowl people in for the week. Personally, I hope they modify or do away with the Superdome so that weather is part of the game. Dome's are for wimps or really cold places!
The thought of a Super Bowl in Baton Rouge is a pipe dream! The Commish would have the game in New York City in the freezing cold before he has it in the old stadium. Guys, I love Tiger Stadium as all of you do, but it has to be the least desired stadium in bathrooms, ramps for handicap, concessions, and access, etc. Tirk is correct; there is not enough hotel space in Baton Rouge to make it happen. Tell me, what does Baton Rouge have to offer to entertain the high rollers and the VIP’s? The casinos and Pure Gold? You getting the picture? Baton Rouge is not exactly a place that comes to mind for a visit besides seeing LSU. Tiger Stadium is a pit stop for the Saints… until Benson figures out how to move to LA or San Antonio. Seems he is on the kick to move the team for whatever reason. The city of Baton Rouge would benefit greatly by having the Saints play there until they find their new home. I was thinking to myself regarding the field turf. I have a feleling, like Washington with the Seahawks, Illinois with the Bears, and Vandy with the Titans…LSU is going to get some major kick backs in stadium improvements…hmm, Bertman thinking new field? New seats for lower level? New sound system? Outdoor stadium would never work in New Orleans…key words…SEC basketball championships and NCAA games and Final Fours. Have to have a stadium like Ford Field in Detroit or try to google Indianapolis plans for their new retractable roof stadium…designed in mind for football and set up for Championship basketball. Not having a domed stadium in New Orleans would kill the city ever having Championship games. I am willing to bet, if a new dome stadium is built, the SEC would hold the football championship game in it. Key is, the basketball arena setting next to the Superdome is not big enough for regional games. If you want to host the Final Four, you got to have the seating capacity of a dome stadium...it just the way it is today. Hope the state spends the money wisely from this mess. The first moveis to rebuild a state of the art stadium and improve the damn educational system in New Orleans. My 2 cents!
Not big enough! Need to have capacity for the Final Four...SEC Tourney may be a stretch...no way the Final Four in that arena!
Check out future Final Fours sites...All domes or retractable roof stadiums...Big Stadiums=Final Fours! http://www.ncaasports.com/basketball/mens/schedules/divi
Indy's plans for new stadium: The city hopes to regularly host the NCAA men's basketball Final Four and possibly a Super Bowl after 2010, said Brand, who praised the bi-partisan political leadership. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050920/NEWS01/509200484
Well um this year they held the first 2 rounds of the mens tourny and the womans final four last year. The arena is well enough for the Final Four, and an arena football team.
Crip...Come on man..are you sure you are not talking about the Superdome? I am sure I was in the upper concourse watching Melo taking it to Rock Chalk Jayhawk a couple of years ago. I think you are getting the two sites mixed up. Trust me, The Women's Final Four, Men's Final Four, SEC Championship, and NCAA regional games were in the Superdome!
