No one is talking about anything permanent. In the end, the Superdome is going to have to be demolished. A new, state-of-the-art dome will be built in its place. When it's finished, it will be the new home of the Saints. Meanwhile, they need some place to play, and the only stadium near NFL quality in Louisiana besides the dome is Tiger Stadium. We should be proud that our stadium is good enough to host an NFL game, not whine about it.
I know that the Titans share the Coliseum with Tennessee State and a bowl game and seem to get along just fine. The Bears share Soldier Field with the Chicago Fire and the Rolling Stones. It can be done without having to see plastic grass on hollowed ground. Football should be played on grass, the way God intended it!
From the reports that I have seen it also seems that the number of injuries are down for the field turf when compared to grass. So that is something to consider. I just want what is best for the school, and I have to imagine that the field is gonna start to look like **** if they are replacing it 5 to 6 times a year. And with the Saints possibly moving to T.S. to play would this open up a chance for T.S. to host the Superbowl. Just a thought, but could you imagine what that would generate for LSU.
While I agree with you that this isnt the finally answer to the problem, it is a solution to a question that has lingered for the past couple of years. How to turn the Saints into a more Louisiana accepted team instead of just New Orleans's team? If the Superdome has to be torn down, with everything else that is going on in the city I dont see them being able to justify buliding a new dome in the next few years. Because with the arena and convention center there is plenty of room to hold conventions and what not. And with the Saints sharing T.S. with LSu, like a few pro teams do there is no reason for an immediate fix. Personally I like the idea of sharing T.S. not only from a fans prespectiative but from a business one as well.
You are probably correct. I was just shocked that the Saints could be playing in Tiger Stadium next year as well. I don't mind it that much this year under the circumstances. I just thought the fix for the Superdome would be more of a short term thing than going into next football season. I also figured the NFL and the Saints could come up with a lot more money than what LSU does for their athletics. So my next question will be, is this a scott free thing for the Saints or are they going to contribute to the maintenance and improvements of TS? just a thought
I believe I read that for this year at the very least, LSU was going to be getting 1.2 Million from the Saints, which would go toward field maintanance and other game related expenses. Someone correct me if I got my numbers wrong.
              You had me till that. Three words.....Never Gonna Happen. There is serious concern about Baton Rouge's ability to host the Sugar Bowl, and thats without considering the lack of hotel rooms in our area. I love BR as much as everyone else here, but it just does not have the big name atractivness that NO has. The NFL would never have the super bowl in a Louisiana city not named New Orleans. Oh yea, TS should switch to feild Turf :thumb:
We have 3 options ... grass, turf or painted dirt! I've seen enough games on painted dirt recently ... not good. Turf ... not in Tiger Stadium. Grass, clumpy or otherwise ... the only answer!
Its not that far fetched. Because I am talking about 10 years from now. Just the simple fact that if the Saints play here next year then the NFL is gonna have to pump some major money into LSU and BR to get it they way it should. And you can bulid a hotel in no time, and there is alot of area say out in D.S and Walker area that is prime for development. Not to mention the boom it could possibly bring to the West Bank. Hell they could turn Bon Marcha mall into a huge hotel.
