1. In South Louisiana, the term Coonass is a term of endearment among the cajun's. Those outside Louisiana do not understand for the most part & either won't say the word (ass) or are just plain confused and think it is a "bad” thing. At any rate, most northerners think the cajun's are dumb and don't think they realize that they are dumb. Go figure.

PS I am a coonass, & so were my ancestors.
  2. The only time I'm offended about being called a coonass is when it hurts Bama recruiting. So if Satan uses it, I'm offended. :hihi: :po:
    2 people like this.
  3. I am not offended by the term at all, but I certainly don't like it. Most people do not know it is an ethnic slur, so when someone refers to me as a coonass I politely say that I prefer to be called Cajun. My grandparents on the other hand get very upset when they hear the term. They grew up when the term meant something bad.
  4. I'm 1/2 cajun myself. My mother grew up in the backwoods part of the Oberlin area called Soileau (swallow, I know you know how to say it). Spent much of my childhood of the farm and bayous. I actually consider that area as a second home. Going to that area this coming summer for vacation, the Cashatta casino. To get to the point, Coonass is as much of the language as hillbilly, redneck, yankee, etc. My family calls each other Coonasses, not that big of a deal.

By the way, somebody send some smoked sausage, boudin, and cracklin. I'm running short. Hope it holds until July.:)
  5.
  6. Saban's such a douche!!!
  7. I'm not offended by the coonass remark, I don't think he said it in a deragatory manner. But the fact that he thinks it's funny that LSU fans feel upset at him being at Bama shows he doesn't care or have any "special place in my heart" feelings for LSU. TIGERBAIT
  8. That's what is so funny about this entire thing. My dad was born and raised in Abeville, LA and everyone calls him a coonass. It's not offensive to call a coonass a coonass. I can understand why some poeple would think it was offensive if they weren't raised in south LA though. It doesn't sound nice if you don't know what it means.
  9. Come on guys, let's get over that. It's the same thing as black boys calling each other nigger or nigga, it's funny and acceptable. Until one a dem peoples says it.....
  10. It doesn't bother me one bit because I know that coonass in the ditch would walk up and down Saban's a$$ if need be! I hope the repercussions of his actions cause him to lose alot of support and respect by high school coaches in La.

Stick to your redneck jokes in Alabama, Saban!
