nuck fick saban. I am not scared of this guy. If you can remember. The rest of the SEC was slowly but surely catching up to Nick's defense. Not that his defense was bad, It was great, But teams were starting to be able to get yards on it at the end of his tenure here. So I say once again. I AM NOT SCARED OF THIS GUY.
What eases my fears about the SEC West, Sourdough, is that the West is harder NOW than it was when Saban last coached in it. And I'm not even talking about it being harded because Saban is back in the West--I'm talking about where the most talent lies. Arkansas is better now than when Saban was last in the SEC.. Auburn is still the same... LSU is still the same... even Miss. State has improved. Basically, Saban won't have it as easy in year 1 at 'Bama the same he had in year 1 at LSU. When Saban took over the LSU job, it was the SEC East that had more talented teams....now, it's the WEST. The '07 version of 'Bama might be better off than the '01 version of LSU, but the division is a lot tougher. Saban might very well not have the 9+ win seasons as early as he did at LSU.
I think you're getting ahead of yourself and going into "panic" mode. When Saban left, only Jimbo and coach Searls were retained by CLM. If Searls didn't follow him to Miami, either: 1.) He wasn't offerend or 2.) Searles wasn't interested in following Saban Saban and Jimbo were criticized for a little too for not opening up the offense as well (something that has been more publicized recently and reported that Jimbo wanted out from LSU because he felt CLM over-ruled him too much) Well...who's more of a control freak? Miles or Saban?? (and that question shouldn't take you long to answer). It was reported on ESPN.com that Saban is interested in Jimbo. But Jimbo wants to be a head coach as well, and this is my opinion, but if there is any truth to the reports that Jimbo is upset with CLM over-ruling some of his calls/play slections, then why on earth would he want to play for CNS?! IMO, if Jimbo's next job isn't a head coaching job, he'll be the OC for FSU--where Bowden likely will give him full control of the offense (something that the FSU boosters certainly would appreciate since they were the ones responsible for running off Bowden's OC--his son--in the first place).
Someone mentioned to me recently that they saw Jimbo a few years back at some sort of social function (maybe Christmas party?) and he was really sloppy drunk that night. They heard that he's had other situations in the past also although maybe it's exaggerated a bit. That same person was also saying how short Jimbo actually is and might have a little man's complex. I personally haven't ever seen him in person and only know the stuff said about him in the media and this site. Can anyone confirm or refute these things? Jimbo always seems to be a leading candidate for these openings (such as UAB) and appears to be interested. With his evident success, you would think he'd have a decent mid-major job by now if he wanted it. Unless he doesn't interview well and/or has character issues?
ESPN has announced that Steele the Associate Head Coach and Linebacker Coach at Florida State has been hired by Saban as Defensive Coordinator. I read somplace today that Searles was going to Bama. They said that Searles and Miles didn't agree on the blocking scheme.
