I am just wondering what your connection is to BAMA, especially coming from Morgan City? I never talk up BAMA. Both of my brothers graduated from there. One loves BAMA, the other hates BAMA and cheers for LSU against them every chance he gets. I don't know why, just sayin'...But I am just wondering what your connection is. I can't help but wonder if I am more connected to BAMA than you??? Oh, and why did my brothers go there? Full-ride scholarships. Best deal offered between them, Texas and LSU. That's the only reason why. Thanks for giving them a free education.
Nope. I didn't. I thought he was a grade "A" prick. Always have. Sure, he won some games, and had one great season. That doesn't mean that I didn't think he was an ahole. Besides the '03 season, saban only did "decent". He wasn't, and still isn't, the greatest coach to ever walk the sidelines. We lost a lot of games that we shouldn't have while he was here, and damn near lost a lot more. Is he a better coach than shula? Sure. Will he make 'bama better? Sure. I still wouldn't trade him for the guy we have. I promise you one thing....on Nov 3rd, he'll get out coached. Enjoy the off-season.
My connection is that I was born and raised in Alabama and have been a solid Bama fan since 1958, although I didn't go to school there. Surely you're not telling me I have to have attended a school to pull for their football team. I don't come from Morgan City. That's where I live now. I wasn't aware of a test that measured a man's worth as a fan of any school. It wouldn't matter to me if Alabama's President Wit is your uncle. Your having two brothers that went to Bama does nothing to lessen my loyalty as a Bama fan. Look, I was just asking a couple of simple questions. I got my answers, some intelligent, some not so much. Just so you know that I'm not over here looking for a fight, I have pulled for LSU as my second SEC team ever since I've been down here. A buddy and I used to have season tickets back during the Archer/Dinardo years. Wish I still had 'em, but the friend moved away so we let the tickets go.
Right. What I'm saying is that Bama fans would have most likely assinated Stallings if he did the turncoat act and went to Auburn a year or two after he retired.
Just understand that coming on this board and pumping Bama sunshine up our rear ends is not going to be met with open arms at this time. We have lots of Bama posters on here, and, though respected posters, they're being met with the same sentiments as you. Stick around, and I'm sure eventually we'll get over it, and there will be peace on earth once again. Probably should happen about 11-3-07, right after the massacre in TTown.:thumb:
Crimson, Just give Saban a year or two. By then, various rumors will start floating. All sorts. While I doubt you will suffer the one about the next NFL gig, the others will likely remain. By the time Nick left LSU, he was considered an ass, but he was our ass. He helped us achieve a national title, and we overlooked the shortcomings. With Saban heading to Bama, I think many LSU fans are just now looking at his tenure with open eyes. Saban was not the savior many proclaimed, and Les is not the 2nd best also ran they decried. For the past three years, I must say it is certainly nice not to hear the constant buzz from the rumor mill.
I'll cite the situation with Bill Oliver on that. The fan base is split on him...those against him still hold angst about his move to Auburn and the way he tried to back-stab Stallings. Those who claim his "savior" status have a good point consider the record LSU had for what 8, 9 years before he took over the program. I agree with the thought rumors will start, but that's the case with any coach that does well. I don't see him going back to the NFL ranks simply because of how much Terry and CNS have stated their love for the college game, and how he's stated he feels he made a mistake by leaving LSU in the first place. People will point to Curry...who, Stallings remarked the other day when asked about him, "Real football coaches don't leave Alabama to go to Kentucky." Simply put, he couldn't handle it. People will point to fRan leaving...again, like Curry, he couldn't handle it...wanting more control than most were willing to give. That isn't the situation here with Saban. Which leads me to this thought... Moffitt has been praised for not leaving LSU for the S&C job at Bama because of his family and their love of the BR area. But, even though we've heard countless times about the love Saban has for the college game and teaching the 18-20 year old kids, he's constantly called $aban? Next years game is going to be interesting, no doubt. Whether it's a massacre as Fishhead has claimed...can't see that. Understand, I do realize it'll take a bit of time for the adjustment to the 3-4 from what's been the base of our defense, the 4-3 and the 30 package. For one, there's the learning curve...and secondly, it's a player issue. Saban prefers larger LB's and DT's and we don't have them on campus right now. Getting them isn't going to be a problem. That's being said, I've been pointing to the '08 year for several years now...
I guess the reason Saban won't be offerred any more NFL jobs couldn't possibly be because he failed miserably, and lied his tail off at his recent NFL job. Saban won't have total control at Bama if you take history into account. Nobody else has, why should he? The difference between $aban and Moffett is simple-every chance $aban has had to chase a buck, he took it. Not the case with Moffett. As for my bold prediction, obviously a lot of it has to be wishful thinking. However, only a fool would believe $aban could miraculously turn Bama into a powerhouse in one year, even two. LSU already is a powerhouse, so my bold prediction isn't all that far fetched. I don't understand the last point about pointing to the '08 season for several years now. Did you know $aban was coming several years ago?
