I don't know why Saban would be "crazy" to take the Dolphins job.

It'll generate plenty of heat if he goes to Miami. People talk of him in the same breath as Bill Bellicheck, and that means alot to pro personnel and pro players alike. (Also, don't think for a second that the hyper-competitive Saban wouldn't like the fact that he'd be coaching in the same division as his friend Bill).

Regardless of what the Colts do in the playoffs, look for a Saban-led Dolphins to make a serious push for Edgerrin James. They'll shave off cap space by dumping David Boston, no doubt, and build the team around Edge. James loves his South Florida and he'd be "the man" on the team as opposed to being a mere "triplet" who's overshadowed by the best QB of this generation.

The defense is still fundamentally sound and talented, a fact not lost on Saban. Add to this excellent weather, an owner committed to winning AND pretty loyal to his subordinates (he hired Dave on the advice of Jimmy Johnson, then gave him more time than he likely deserved to try and win) plus a deep, rich tradition and...well, why not, especially if he gets to team up with Floyd Reese.

Again, I think Butch Davis feels suddenly "rested" the second Saban leaves, if he does this offseason.

I dont think there is any question that Saban wants the NFL...its just a matter of when. Last year he admitted his interest in the Bears...the year before he interviewed with who...carolina...jacksonville? I dont remember exactly but while we would all like to think he is happy at LSU, and I'm sure he is, I dont know if he's committed to LSU for the long haul here. If he was he wouldnt be interviewing or showing interest in these other jobs.

I do hope my boss is wrong about Miami giving Saban total player control but the ownership down there is not stupid. They know what Saban wants in an NFL job and they are not going to pursue him unless they are willing to give it.

I know Saban or Bertman hasnt said anything but dont these things typically get worked out by agents/attorney's well before hand? I think they do and it wouldnt surprise me if Saban's agent has the ground work in place before Skip is told about an interview. I dont think there is any time limit for notifying Skip. They could just call him up and say Nick was interviewing today if they wanted too and that would probably meet the criteria of his contract.

Like I said though....I just hope if an interview does take place that something breaks down in the negotiations and kills the deal.

Actually, there is a clause in Saban's contract that says January 1 is the deadline for him to talk to anyone else...

I know about that clause but what I mean is there is no limit on how much notice Skip would recieve within those dates as to an interview taking place. I would think Saban or his agent could just call Skip and tell him it wsa going to happen and it could happen at anytime after that notice.

First of all, from a job satisfaction standpoint, what is more satisfying in the NFL than in college? Also, Miami has no freakin' talent at all, and it would take a major undertaking to build that program again. If it isn't job satisfaction, then is it money? How much money does Saban need to be "happy" or "satisfied?" Good Lord, we are already shelling out a lot of money, so what will it take? If he leaves I will be totally baffled.
In case he does leave, why wouldn't Jimbo or Muschamp be a good HC choice, instead of Butch?

Your Saban/NFL motivation is entirely off base. This is not about money. This is about someone who is very good at what he does and wants to prove himself at the highest level. furthermore, just because miami is having a bad season, I wouldn't go as far to say that they have no talent. remember miami has had a string of bad luck since this summer which has snowballed into a terrible season. they have talent they just need someone to tap it.

The point is the Saints easily have more talent than the phins. That's why the aints have a better record. Both teams are just as poorly coached, but are differentiated by the level of talent.
