I agree that Saban's not leaving. But if Nick Saban drove off a cliff and died in a firey car crash or something, LSU would have to stay in-house. What a slap in the face it would be to just pass on a quality assistant like Jimbo Fisher. I mean, they were just as much a part of this LSU rebirth as anyone. Hiring Spurrier would cause a huge backlash.

    RIGHT ON TSmith!!

Sure glad you made that point. Saban is the mastermind of this team but I'm sure Jimbo and the rest of the staff have soaked up plenty of Saban's knowledge and intensity. Jimbo over Spurrier every day of the year!

I don't mind the bitterness... and the "Gatorfool" accusations. :) I can't run through a Tiger's lair without a few scratches. I would probably be the same way towards any number of FSU fans after this year's "game" (for lack of a better term).

I understand the sentiment towards Spurrier. There are certainly many coaches.... okay, most coaches that have more class than him. As for myself, I know that my first year as a student at UF, he skipped town to make more money. I have no loyalty to him at all. I simply posed the question about Saban because I honestly don't know how LSU fans feel about him, but it seems my suspicions were correct. You should hear Mark Richt's response to Spurrier's resignation "Oh... is that right?.............I didn't know.............interesting.......so anyway". (Speaking of repetedly kicking the neighbor's dog...) No love lost there.

Apologies if I stepped on any toes!

yep...that worked real well with Ron Zook and Frank Solich. It is very difficult for an asst coach to follow in the footsteps of a very successful head coach at the same university. Asst coaches usually go to new schools to create their own identity.

    Apology completely accepted

Derek, your the kind of visitor poster we love to have here. I show no hate to you. You WILL get scratched going to an opponents board. I think that's part of the fun. I like passionate posts and I like when we can agree to disagree. It's kind of like fishing. You throw out bait and see who bites. If we all just agreed on everything this would be the lamest board in the world. Derek, I hope you are the kind of Gator fan I will meet next year when I go to the Swamp to see my Tigers. I promise we will rant and rave at each other before the game, but loser buys the beer after. :geaux:

This year the one LSU home game I attended was the Fla game I sat near the Fla band and it looked like sorority/fraternity row immediatley in front, behind and beside me. Even though LSU had a letdown, LSU and FLA fans had a good time egging each other on. I think my "hatred" for FLA comes from the Spermier years, not because of the Gator fans. All the same - redemption is sweet - hope to see Gators turn in to Tiger Bait next FB season!

    GEAUX TIGES!

Go Big Blue in Pasadena (the only time you'll catch me rooting for Michigan...)

I don't know if I would say that about Zook yet, he will have a chance to prove himself and his recruiting classes have been very good and this year's will be better. Spurrier may have known a little something about the team he had coming back when he resigned.

I don't think St. Nick's going anywhere. Besides, Spurrier's too much fun to hate.

Wow! I like the way you think!

You wanna know what I think? I think Coach Saban will be coaching LSU in the 2004 SEC Championship game in Atlanta.

My crystal ball doesn't show anything past Dec, 2004, however.

If Saban leaves Spurrier would be an excellent fill-in...who else, Jimbo? Now the point this guy brings up is all speculation, so thinking in those terms and Saban leaves bring on Spurrier!!! This will keep us as one of the top programs in the country and recruiting wouldn't miss a beat.
