not sure if thats referring to my stance but if so you're confused. Certainly saban needed LSU as much as we needed him but there is no question saban is a quality coach. a quitter and a liar, but a good coach. I think he falls back to earth as well but he wont be a failure at bama. I could win 8 games with their recruiting base and saban will win at least 9 or 10 once his recruits roll in. no one thinks he will destroy LSU recruiting but make no mistake, he will cherry pick a top few each year at the very worst. Like FSU did for years. Its just how its gonna be.
Yeah I guess we'll see. I think his rep is trashed and recruits will constantly be reminded of this. He will call McKnight and Chad Jones tonight but in the end it will be to no avail. After a couple years things might get better, but for now it's something every SEC head coach will hang his hat on. The people I am worried about losing in Searles and Jimbo. I'm sure Saban made sure he could pay top dollar to get the top assistants at Bama, so I think the total fallout is yet to be felt.
agree with this. Jimbo is a goner. This whole orchestrated event is likely the reason Jimbo was holding out. All by design possibly. One of Nick's first demand was reported yesterday to be an unlimited budget, per se, to hire assistants. mal moore gladly bent over with no ky on that one. they had to comply with every saban wish because they had to land the guy at all costs. saban will have a top staff for a year at least :hihi: :hihi: OC-jimbo O-Line--Searels TE --freddie kitchens RB--Bobby williams QB- tom clements from the packers DC--Todd stroud from NC St D-Line- Tracy rocker @ ark DB--kirby smart from UGA LB--travis jones from miami with nick str & cond--bert hill from the fins some gump sent me this info.
Losing Tommy Moffit would be our biggest concern. The O-Line play has not been consistently good enough to win championships over the past three years, and we know what the offense has looked like at times despite our overabundance of talent.
i disagree. upon further review.... this line gave up the fewest sacks in the nation or at least close to it plus the running game was simply lackluster at first due to the JV/AB combo that weighed 900 lbs collectively. KW showed it wasnt really the oline as much as the runners themselves. They even made JV look great tonight. this line deserves a ton of credit this year. one of the surprising bright spots that was supposed to be a weakness. Maybe this les fella has some influence from his oline experience like st prick with the defense? searels is gone though.
The word right now is Steele from FSU, who has been offered. To add to the recruting thing, he was Rivals recruiter of the year a couple of years ago. Oh, and dont look for Phelon Jones to go anywhere.
Here's how I figure it. Every year, there will be 5 or so recruits that LSU & Bama are going to be in a tight battle for. We will come out on top most of the time, but Saban will steal a few from us - one or two a year, IMO. Miles will sell the kids on playing close to home, parents love him, great atmosphere here with lots of academic support. Saban will sell the kids on the NFL. He'll use those other things as well, but the kids that he will steal - it will be because all they care about is getting to the NFL. As far as Saban coming in and taking some of our staff... I wouldn't be suprised to see Jimbo go, not because Jimbo wants to work under Saban but because Jimbo wants to go somewhere where he can be the OC again. Miles has completely taken over (with very good results, I should add). I don't see Searles going though, and I think he would be a much bigger hit if he were to leave. Like Tirk was saying, he's done a pretty good job and not only that, but I think he's probably more important to recruiting than Jimbo. Plus I don't think we want 3 coaches on Bama's staff all with ties to La highschools.
If we want a player that Saban wants Id play dirty. I would play excerpts of him denying he will leave LSU and Miami. How commited he is to the job at hand and the team he is with. Remind the parents of what kind of a man he is. We know he is a great coach. I agree, I think Searles would be a much bigger loss. I think Saban will play dirty and try to take as many off the LSU staff as he could to show his influence.
