I think Saban and Ricky understand each other. I mean they both know about signing big contracts and then turning their back on the organization that made a commitment to them.

Saying Ricky is the reason for the Fins collapse is simply laughable. He was a factor, sure, but there was a whole litany of reasons they were terrible. O-line, Boston's injury, terrible QB performances, special teams issues, coaching strategies...this list goes on. They would have been maybe 2-3 wins better with Ricky.

I agree that there is more reasons for their collapse, but disagree that they're only 2-3 wins better. Their ENTIRE OFFENSE was built around this guy. I'm not saying they're a playoff team, but they're at least 9-7 or 10-6, either one of which probably save Wanstedt's job.

My opinion of Sabam would go way down if he brings Williams back. I'm sure he will lose sleep over that

I guess it's the old money thing. Saban has to win to justify his big bucks and it's the NFL and anything goes.

There is noway the Dolphins would've been 10-6 with Ricky.

Now, about Saban. I can't blame him for taking the job. I realize their is some bad blood towards Saban but we all knew this was his aspiration. He wanted to coach the NFL. He has absolutely nothing to lose and a lot to potentially gain. Give the guy a break. He built us up a nice program, proved himself and was rewarded for his work. We all know this is how college sports work. Sure I wish he would've stuck around like Spurrier stuck around in Florida. Now if you want to call him a traitor or blame him for not committing to LSU after LSU commited to him, so be it, but if you want to see how not to handle yourself in these situations take a look at Petrino at Louisville. Be glad we didn't get some moron like that.

Now back to Ricky. Of course Nick would be receptive to getting him back. He would evaluate him in spring training then probably try to trade him. But there is no way Ricky could pass his drug test currently, I wonder if he would have to serve his punishment for the last failed tests, and he appears to have lost a lot of weight and who knows about his conditioning. He wouldn't be the same bashing 4th quarter running back he used to be.

Then we'll agree to disagree. They were 10-6 last year with that exact same team, so there's no reason to think they wouldn't at least equal that record. They've lost some close games this year when a Ricky Williams-type back quite possibly could've run out the clock.

I agree that Saban was destined for the NFL, but only on HIS terms. If Wanstedt doesn't get fired, it may be 2-3 more years before an owner is willing to give him the type of control that WH did. Saying that, I stick to my original take and believe that Ricky Williams was the catalyst in this chain of events.

Ricky Williams wouldn't last 10 minutes with Nick Saban.

He hates people barking at him what to do and would not be able to stay clean.

I can agree with you Fanatic about Ricky being a "catalyst". I think it was an emotional blow to the team since the team and staff were depending on Ricky's run game. So I think it was an emotional blow to the team and it started there. But to build a team around one player is a bit foolish. What if Ricky had broken a leg early in the season? In the end Ricky was a catalyst to the failure of Miami.

I still think NFL teams would've flurted with Saban each year and the money and control would have been offered because all the teams would've known that Saban wanted that before they even met with him. We will see what he does. I wish him well and hope he succeeds and doesn't pull a Spurrier. It would be nice to have a great NFL coach that won Superbowls come out of LSU coaching.
