Contiinued... The younger of our fans probably feel more jilted than those of us who have experienced this sort of thing often in all aspects of our lives. They also haven't built up all of the scar tissue we have as they haven't been through enough of the agony and good times yet. They see Saban in a different light than we do. I understand that. My son 16 year old son is totally pissed at Nick and still feels like he is nothing more than a traitor right now, even though he will still argue with his non-LSU friends about Saban's prowess as a coach. Than of course we have the giant fanbase in the middle and they are probably the ones who are most torn down the middle and feel the pain the more than the rest of us. These fans have been LSU fans long enough to have that same very deep love, have gone through much agony during the days of darkness, some of the ups and downs, the near misses with Arnsparger and Archer's first year, etc. These are the fans I feel the most empathy for. And the ones who will carry the LSU torch deep into this century.
This is the point. I'm not a name caller on here, but most of you guys that are STILL moaning about "how he left" and "not being honest" and all that crap are simply petty morons.
i dont get it. i basically just said lying is wrong. just responding to the thread topic. thats it. im not upset. go take another intro to psyc class
a serious question--do you think the academic center does anything, really? i always felt it was good only in that it might help recruit better students=smarter players. ive just had too much experience with the athletes to think that most of them will ever care about learning
this thread is/was about saban's recent comments about what he wants. no one said they were pissed he left. youre either playing shrink or not being able to follow the discussion. either way, please stop
You are correct, but I did ask for comments and what people thought about that quote... This thread has derailed all over the place... My opinion: I believe nick saban was a great coach and a very crafty coach at that...however, he stopped being focused on LSU last fall after finally realizing he could make more money and coach on the "higher" playing field... Two things he stated many many times before... that he wanted to eventually be a HEAD COACH IN THE NFL... not a assistant, not a DC, but a HEAD COACH... I think many should turn off their selective hearing... I truly believe the man liked coaching at the college level, but I also believe that he wanted to go to the next level, and try to succeed at that. I think this turned into a decent saban thread... but I was interested in more of a conversation of the quote he made about being a Secondary Coach rather that a head coach... So again... comments? questions? death threats? :angryfireo::angry::cuss: Thanks for playing...
now wait a second, you're smart enough to see the writing on the walls. i believe that you knew full well how this thread would turn out, given the sensitive nature of the topic and comment at hand. the 'derailment' should hardly come as a surprise to you. but about his comments, i'm pretty surprised to hear them. they don't anger me, as i have gotten over sabans departure in due time. i am now very much looking forward to what les miles will do with the program. however, being exposed to countless hours of 'saban-speak', and having full knowledge of what a control freak he is, i would never expect to hear him say something like this. i know how his type well, partially because i have similar traits as he does...perfectionist, a bit of a control freak, etc. and for him to suggest that he would take a job in which he would have very little control over the team is not consistent with those quailities. i don't doubt for one second that every passing moment for him as an assistant/position coach was borderline agonizing, obsessing over all of the things he would do differently if he were the HC. and now that he's got that power, even an implication at relinquishing such seems very out of character. moreover, going back to the 'saban-speak' issue, it's equally surprising for him to be so upfront about it. i'd more expect to hear him say something to the effect of 'if my responsibilities were different, in terms of the facets of the team i oversee, and i was able to maintain my current condition, relative to what i can provide, then maybe there would be a different option for consideration at some point.'
ok ... I knew it would derail some but... yeah... WOW... what a good "coach speak" paragraph... He probably would have made it more vague than that though... hahaha...
