No sharing at all. If you don't play in the national championship game, then you ain't the national champion. One football is awarded per year . . . ONE.
Actually Bama does have a Crystal Football Trophy. The trophy has been awarded since 1986 to the winner of the coaches poll. When the coaches poll became part of the BCS they used the coaches' trophy, but the trophy LSU received is identical to the trophy Bama received in 1992. Here is more history on the trophy. The AFCA National Championship Trophy is the trophy awarded by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) to the winner of college football's BCS National Championship Game, which determines the national champion for purposes of the Coaches Poll. The trophy has been awarded since 1986. The trophy consists of a Waterford Crystal football affixed to an ebony base, and carries a value of over $30,000. The winning school retains permanent possession of the trophy, as a new one is awarded every year. The trophy has undergone several sponsorship changes over the years. It was sponsored by the Gerrits Foundation during the initial 1986 and 1987 seasons. Pepsi came aboard as a co-sponsor in 1988 and 1989. McDonald's was the sole sponsor from 1990 until 1992. Sears became the trophy's sponsor in 1993 and remained so until 2001. Circuit City assumed sponsorship duties for the 2002 season. ADT Security Services, the current sponsor, took over in 2003. As the sponsor obtains naming rights to the trophy, its current name is actually the "ADT National Championship Trophy."
Ok Bama fans, you might have a crystal trophy from a long long time ago but you dont have The Crystal Trophy of the BCS.:hihi: Its like explaining things to my kids.
That's funny but it may be easier to explain it to the kids......oh and be careful, "Kids" take on a whole new meaning in Alabama: Notice their "Momma" ain't in the pic huh?? :hihi:
The BCS is nothing more than a system that puts #1 vs. #2 in the bowl game. In 1992 you had consensus #1 Miami vs. concensus #2 Alabama. Alabama won the trophy on the field just as LSU did. It was a tremendous accomplishement by both Alabama and LSU that resulted in both teams receiving the same award from the same source (the AFCA). Does the fact that Alabama and Miami were rated #1 and #2 in a different manner (pre BCS) diminish the accomplishment and the fact it was just as much #1 vs. #2 as when LSU won? I have tremendous respect for LSU. I was just pointing out that the poster was incorrect when they said Alabama didn't have a crystal football trophy.
No, no one is diminishing Alabama's accomplishments, we're just talking about the current form of National Championships, the BCS.:thumb: Alabama hasnt won any, yet.
Welcome to the forum, you seem like you're here for the right reasons- rational football talk. :thumb:
Fair enough. I am actually not one to try and put down the BCS. I think the system does all it can to pit #1 vs. #2 in a bowl game. When there are more than two teams that can make a claim to be there, someone will always be unhappy and try to deminish the winner's accomplishsments. In today's college football world, there is no more deserving champion than the winner of the BCS title game and that is something LSU should be very proud of.
