It is $5.45 now days. My friends and I always have exact change. And those black ladies that work there like to flirt with young college guys.

During my college days Sambo's on Acadian Thruway was a very easy place to Dine and Dash.

I am orignally from shreveport and the one there it is a lot easier to dine in and out without paying a penny...but the one near north gates in BR is like a fortress to get in or out

Maybe they index their prices to the minimum wage???

    I was there in the early-to-mid 80's.

I just remember going there with a $5 bill and getting paper change. CAN'T BEAT THAT.

The pizza and pasta? It was O.K. But, how can you complain given the price and the fact that you could watch a big screen T.V. while you eat.

My girlfriend and I lived on campus and would walk over there at least once every weekend.

To hell with being the next Bear Bryant. I want him to be the first Nick Saban.

... that is if one didn't keel over on the way out the door. Hard for me to comment on the quality of Sambo's food - was never in there sober.

The steaks weren't bad and the price was right. Nobody in there was sober at 2 AM

The Sambo's location is a Denny's now and I haven't been there is years (I hate Denny's food) At the time I used to go there Sambo's was almost always packed at barroom closing time on weekends. The Sambo's dine and dash strategy was to wait until the paying customers were lined up at the cashier's counter. The person who got the ticket for the meal would go to the men's room that was located both near the cashier's counter and the exit door while his dining companions would leave while the designated dasher was in the mens room. Once the diners had gotten into the car of the getaway car the dasher would exit the mens room while there was still a crowd at the cash register and casually saunter out of the building and walk to the car and drive away. This technique worked flawlessly. There was only one time that it didn't go as smooth as normal. One night I was in a well known Chimes street bar after closing time continuing to drink heavily with the owner and another customer who was still there. About the time the bar owner had gotten his day's money in his moneybag and his .38 special and was ready to go a disparaging remark was made about the bar owner's little .38 special popgun. It ended up with me getting the my Smith & Wesson .44 Magnum out of my car and the other customer getting his pistol from his car. We set beer mugs on a table and took turns shooting at them for money. After the first and last meeting of the McG**s Pistol Club we agreed to meet at Sambo's. Being drunker than Cooter Brown the other guy and myself raced to Sambo's from Chimes Street driving like Dale Earnhardt and Jeff Gordon. We were in Sambos for 10 or 15 minutes before the bar owner who was a drunk as we were but who was trying to drive carefully arrived. When he got there despite his effort to drive carefully he smashed another car while trying to park. By the time we finished eating the cops were in the parking lot because of the accident but the Dine and Dash still worked even though the poor guy ended up with a DWI.

Disclaimer: Times have changed and I don't recommend that anybody try this. The above story is true but the statute of limitations has expired. Any reader wanting to develope his own Dine and Dash techniques at any restaurant does so at their own risk without the express written consent of myself, the NCAA, the NFL and any and all television affiliates and networks.

You guys are openly talking about STEALING?! Hmmm... tsk, tsk. Okay, I will admit that I spent many times at Sambo's after the bars closed. On those "unlucky" nights, it was either head across the bridge, or head the other way to li'l Sambo's. And, often times, the appeal of the steak and eggs was just too great! I will further admit that one time, ONE TIME, my buddy and I "put a walk on it." This was at about three or four in the morning after receiving horrible service - it took almost forever to get our order taken, then for the food to come, and then it was wrong, etc. Anyway, I headed out, while my buddy did the men's room thing, etc. I had no idea that this happened so frequently! Gee, no wonder they went out of business! I always thought it had something to do with the name!
