When Saban returns to college football he will not come back here. It is very difficult to come back home after being away for awhile. It is never the same. Saban & LSU is history and that is ok with me.
Here's the thing, If this is true, Miami should be very upset. Number 1, I would think Miami could match whatever he would be offered at Bama. the only reason I could see Saban jumping ship would be a disagreement or personality conflict with the owners. AKA they arent sticking up to his wanting to run the show. It's way early to jump ship in Miami based on performance. I would think anybody knows that, Saban and owners alike. It would take a few years to get all the ducks in a row so to speak. if the owners are THAt impatient then yeah maybe he should jump ship. But I can't imagine any other reasons. I dont see Saban as a "wilt" under pressure type of guy, so I doubt he has told himself that, " gee this league is just too tough for me"
I am curious about how Saban will be received if he does take the Bama job and come into town to play in Tiger Stadium.
I dont think it is so much "hard" to accept a guy back. The fans I am sure would love it. What IS hard is going through the scenario that we would "need" him back. No one wants to go there just to have him back. So many things would have to happen that are unpleasant to say the least. 1. Miles would have to be losing regularly. ( thats a big one there and I know we dont want that! ) 2. Saban would have to want to come back. ( this isnt a given, he may be happy where he is at) 3. All these things have to happen at the same time. 4. Other coaches would be considered of course, and there are always money negotiations that could break down. 5. If Saban was available 50 other top colleges would be throwing money at him too, and some of them have some big dollars also. Basically it is unlikely he will be back, all the stars have to line up and that first star, us losing is just something I'd really hate to see happen. I like Saban, but not enough to want to lose.
I understand completely why people are upset. I would also be PO'd that he left LSU on Christmas Day for his NFL "dream," only to abandon ship 2 years later to return to the SEC. But...the man is not unbeatable, and it would be fun for us to do just that to him.
I agree with Jeffinbama here and a few others. I believe Saban is always looking for his next gig because he hasn't discovered that the grass isn't always greener on the other side. He wanted the perfect NFL job and got it and now maybe its not quite what he expected or isn't going to work out? Maybe he decided things have changed so much in the NFL that he prefers college? Anyway, this is all just rumor but I'll bite since Jeff seems to know some stuff. I couldn't agree more about Dinardo losing 2 coordinators which means Carl Reese has won a championship with Texas also assuming he is still there. Mr. B, fans will put up with this if it brings them a winning team, good recruits and a championship every 5 years or so. Tiger 2012, money isn't eveything and doesn't cure everything! my 2 cents
One reason I think this is a rumor is that if there isn't a Iron clad reason like perssonality conflicts that everyone is aware of and can be verified, even a great coach like Saban could be labeled as a "short term coach" so to speak. That doesn't mean he wouldnt get hired somewhere but it could limit his resume somewhat.
Carl Reese was the DC at UT for a while, but I think Gene Chizak was the one that was there last year?
