Much ado about nothing, IMO. I don't like saban anymore, mostly over his conduct in Miami, and him going to a conference foe of ours. I like it when he loses. But this hooray is just media going off on him. He may be a bit over the top, but ya gotta really have it in for him to be taking shots over this. It appears some in the media do have it in for him. Maybe he shouldn't be so condescending to the media...

I hope next year there are fewer saban threads. I try not to start any anymore. I think my hope may be in vain... :(

nothing inappropriate or disrespectful about saban's comments.

football is nothing if not entirely an analogy to war--blitz, bomb, shotgun (they do use shotguns in wars, dont they?)

you could say everyday business is an analogy to war too -- hostile takeover, destablization attempts, training employees to kill off the competition -- however equating the need for a football team to come together (after losing to a directional school) to two of the most galvanizing events in U.S. history is so over the top I have to wonder if Saban has already lost his mind.

Saban had the media in his back pocket here in Baton Rouge. He flew under the national media radar at the time. But he became national when he went to Miami then infamous when he snuck out and went to Bama. He got caught in a lie and now the national media is looking to nail him any chance they get. It's a long way from just having to deal with local sportscasters like he did here in BR.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure it's going to be overblown by the media because that's what the media does (look @ the Miles to Michigan nonsense.)

I don't think it was appropriate, though. He also made some comments after 9/11 when our game with AU was postponed that almost made it sound like the game was bigger than the tragedy, and he was annoyed. I didn't like that at the time.

For what it's worth, I've always thought it was a blessing that Saban left prior to Katrina because I don't think he would've handled a tragedy like that appropriately. He seems to have a wee bit of a problem with perspective--just like when he wouldn't go meet President Bush last year when invited.

My complaint isn't really that it is about Saban, but the fact they choose to cover it. It goes along the lines of seeing Barry Bonds on TV every five seconds. I would like to think maybe some day we can get back to talking about sports.

Agreed. They weren't the worst comments ever made. But for them to be made by the head football coach of a public institution is poor judgement.

No wonder why this board is trailing TD by a mile these days. Chicken actually allows debate unlike this bunch of craven moderators and their hair-trigger delete buttons.

Senseless name calling isn't needed in a debate. Unless you are 13.
