Thanks for the voice of reason. this whole issue gets me "worked up", but reading your comments ... maybe I should just chill on this issue. Like I can do anything anyway! :) I just want him to come to LSU. We've got to keep our LA kids in LA - OUR LA. :geauxtige

The fact of the matter is the day after Saban was announced, McKnight had his high school coach call Saban and tell him McKnight wanted to visit.

I've heard that from several different people. The talk is JT Curtis taking about the same type position Tim Bowens had (dealing with the high school coaches) but with a different title and more responsibility.

Director of Player Development is what has been rumored.

Right now, there are three coaches that are "working." Lance Thompson, (position hasn't been announced yet, but maybe DL and RC) Kirby Smart (DB) and Kevin Steele (DC an probably ILB)

Terry, can you name the High School where John T. Curtis is coach? That's right, John T Curtis Christian School! He ain't going nowhere! If he wanted to do anything in college, he could've done it years ago. Saban tried to hire him while at LSU as well. Go start a thread about Saban looking to hire Parcells or something, will ya?!:thumb:

I don't know. JT Curtis has been coaching there for decades and probably already has his retirement years in. He just might find it interesting to take an easy and well-paying college job for a few years before going to the rocking chair. You know, find a new challenege and put away some respectable bucks for the future.

But if it is true that McKnight has been living with Curtis for a few years, then he is a legal guardian and NCAA prohibitions about hiring family might be troublesome. I can't imagine Bama flirting with anything that would attract the attention of the NCAA.

Just since Katrina, I think. If JT leaves the school, the school is done. I don't see it happening. His dad, JT Sr. died right before Katrina, so I think he's very much needed there.

I had the same thought about Curtis making a change and stashing away some big bucks the next few years. That money would do a lot for the school.

In regards to hiring a legal guardian, has the NCAA enacted some new rules recently. Remember Danny Manning? Larry Brown hired his dad, who was a truck driver, and made him an assistant coach in order to sign his son. Manning senior had never coached although he played a short time in the NBA. It worked for Brown and Kansas. Danny M led them to an NCAA Championship.

I know exactly where he coaches, and I also realize his dad passed the job down to him, and he may be looking to do the same to one of his son's who are assistants there also.

I don't know if this will come to fruition or not. All I've said is I've heard the same thing from a few different people.

Who knows? Right now, no one. Although, my gut tells me that we'll know this week. When the staff is announced, expect it to be one major announcement about the rest of the staff. The only name public right now are those of the coaches who have been setting up the recruiting strategy/visits/etc.

Funny how we're back to Larry Brown when talking about Saban!:hihi:

Surely you meant that in jest. It's on record that $aban had an ass't coach in the middle of the bidding on Albert Means in Memphis a few years back (while $aban was still at MSU.) What I can't imagine is that they would give $aban $4M a year without a big "recruiting budget." The old sackman approach is hard to trace and catch.

Terry has commented that he was a little leery of Saban because of a minor violation at LSU involving improper contact. But he didn't mention Saban being involved in the Means scandal. I've heard rumors like this on the AU board, but nothing "on the record". If Saban is dirty, then why hasn't the NCAA ever come down on him? Maybe its just talk, I don't know.
