LSU is not Harvard or Yale or Stanford or Berkeley or MIT or any of the very elite academic institutions in the United States, or the world as a whole. The State of Louisiana itself is one of the worst states in the Union when it comes to our system of public education (although yes, LSU, as our flagship university, is better than pretty much every state university in our smaller-populated state of Louisiana). LSU's main focus is being an academic institution, not the manager of an elite football franchise (like an NFL team/business). The reality is that it is very improbable that LSU will ever set the standard for being the best academic institution in the United States, much less on the planet Earth. Faulting LSU for that is unrealistic (although a worthy goal). And like I said, being a strong academic institution is the number one goal of any university, including LSU.
No one is saying LSU is an Ivy league school nor should we be. you're missing the point. if everyone believed this way, we would have never hired emmert nor would we have the cox facility which did set the standard. just because you cannot be the best in something doesnt mean you dont strive to attain it.
What you imagine amounts to censorship, a practice they do not promote in journalism. It's a student paper, the students are in charge and they are, in fact, adults. Learning to make difficult editorial decisions is best had by doing it and so they do. Sometimes they look professional, sometimes they trip all over themselves. It is not their job to make LSU look good, it is their job to develop into journalists.
Perrilloux had a single charge of a non-violent, victimless crime. The five dismissed players crimes involved violence, destruction, or theft--2 for burglaries of a fellow student's apartment, 1 assault and battery in beating a fellow student in a bar. 2 for malicious vandalism. Tyson Andrus quit the team
True, but some minimal level of journalistic principles have to be practiced. They have basic facts wrong, as John has well documented. I mean, they can't simply make things up, for example. I don't think this is intentional, but it is certainly sloppy, and is likely at least partially a result of bias (not conscious bias necessarily, but the brain has a tendency to trick itself into buying into narratives that confirm one's preexisting view of reality). A real reporter could lose his job over journalism this bad. I'm not saying the kids that are f*cking up these stories should be kicked off the paper, but I do think the powers that be should impose that a correction/retraction be issued. And no, that is not censorship. At some point there is a duty to enforce some minimal degree of standards. Editorial writers have a basic, fundamental right to their opinions, and expressed in the First Amendment. I have no problem with that end.
also identity theft plus Troy Giddens punched Joseph Barksdale in the jaw sending him to the hospital which was like two arrest in 2 or 3 wks.
True but I wouldn't have to put my hand in it's pants three times to find out, either. Don't be long, you won't want to miss it- tirk & John are just gettin started.
