He acts like he has little man syndrome or something. Way overcompensating, peacocking. And he wonders why he is depicted as a cartoon baby. It’s because he is one.

To say the European Union is a foe illustrates Trump’s utter stupidity. I used to think we’d just suck it up fou 4 years, now I’m concerned we may not make it that long.

I shudder to think about how he will mis-characterize the upcoming summit.

His comment is his comment. If you choose to look at it as something else, that's a "you" thing.

If it were more balanced, there would be no need for the comment.

Says whom? If there was a "right" way to correct it, then why is it so out of whack?

Who says it's wrecked? Who says it's even a relationship? Does a shark consider itself in a relationship with a remora? An elephant's ass with a tick? Stormy with her johns?

I don't do a lot of negotiating these days other than my fees. I proceed differently based on the client. But if you think that as a business insultant, they don't see me as a foe, then may I offer you a big cup of wake-the-eff-up. I don't know how much business experience you have but this type of posturing and verbiage is de rigueur.

Mis-characerization is what has happened on this topic. He said they were a foe, WHEN IT CAME TO TRADE. And they are. The EU is NOT a happy conglomeration made up of the former "nice" Euro nations with whom we forged a relationship during WWII.

Should the US just sit back and smile while the EU continues to enjoy the fruits of OUR labor?

Don't you want the US to have the most prosperous economy and it's citizens to have the best quality of life?

No its a result of reading of his pronouncements and actions. It’s pretty obvious to anyone without blinders what he is doing.

Circumstances change continually. There is always need for adjustments. To think any industrial relationship stays static is foolish.

You’re ignoring the history of the last 70 years. I work for Siemens a German company that has over 50,000 employees in the US. A company that has save countless jobs here. To name a few: Allis Chalmers, Furnas, Robicon, Dresser Rand, US Filter. It continues to invest millions in the US unlike domestic competitors such as GE and Westinghouse. There are many others who invest billions here. You ignore too much if you don’t consider the whole picture. Likewise as I understand the balance of trade doesn’t include financial and digital services where I’ve read we have a $700 billion positive balance.

I don't do a lot of negotiating these days other than my fees. I proceed differently based on the client. I don’t know what business you’re in but I’ve sold major equipment for over 40 years including deal in the $10s of millions. It is NOT a standard of business and if I tried that my business would drop to zero quickly. I know of one person who tried to operate that way. His name is Jack Stanley who owned Good Hope refining. He was very Trumpian in his dealings and ended up bankrupt....sort of like Mr Trump when he was really building things. You know now all he does is sell his name. BTW I knew Jack Stanley personally and the only way I sold to him was for cash on the order, including a $6MM package to provide the electrical infrastructure of his refinery. I saw him do the same things Trump has like short change his subs, welsh on deals and act the bully. That’s no way of doing business.
BTW if you want to check me out private message me and I’ll give you my LinkedIn link.

Yes and it does already and will continue to unless Trump’s tradewars send the economy into a spiral. One things too many either don’t understand or ignore is that we the people profit significantly by foreign trade. We pay lower prices for goods so our pay goes further. We’re forced to innovate and become more productive which builds new industry and creates jobs. One of the factories I sell for is located in Pittsburgh. Yes there’re fewer steel mills but it’s a center of high tech and Medical and banking with higher paying jobs, safer jobs. I will bet the people working in the foreign car manufacturers and subsidiaries plants in the south much prefer their current jobs to working in the furniture & clothing mills of the past.
So how much would you pay for an iPhone iPad or the like if it were made here? How about a television, would you have one in every room as I do or can now or just one for the den.
Trade and trade balance aren’t the simplistic numbers being trotted out. We live in an interconnected world and starting a trade war is not a smart play. We have history to show what happens. The tariffs put in place by Europe and the US (Smoot-Hartley) deepened and lengthened the 1929 Crash into the Great Depression.
