I've still never forgiven them for taunting us with the hostages back in the 80's......They were begging for an azzwhipping and never got it.

The F-22 is not yet operational. And I said resources - not firepower. Too many of our forces are already tied down in Iraq and Afghanistan. The active duty military has been so depleted since the early 90s that they have to rely on the reserves and the National Guard to fulfill their missions. Thank the Total Force Concept and presidents Bush I, Clinton and Bush II for that.

Actually one squadron is now operational, but it will still be an F-15 force for some time.

True dat. We have naval power and airpower to conduct raids, but no deployable ground force to engage in another proper war.

The Pentagon implemented the Total Force Concept under Reagan because there was no more draft. It was their way of preventing another Vietnam by forcing politicians and the citizens to accept some of the responsibility for war-fighting, rather than just sending off the regular army to fight an unpopular war. It was thought that if fighting a war involved the National Guard and Reserves, then the states and the citizens would be more realistic and have a personal stake in going to war again.

And it seems to have worked. It took 8 long years for the public and the politicians to understand that Vietnam was a mistake and we needed to get out of it. It took only four years this time.

Which is exactly what we should have done with Iraq. What happened to Bush's "Shock and Awe" bombing campaign. We could wipe the Iranian threat off the face of the earth without breaking a sweat, but Bush is so stupid anything is possible. Before anyone attacks me as a bleeding heart liberal let me say that I am a diehard conservative, just not a fan of this ignorant a$$ backwards administration.

Yes but you no longer see any rockets falling on Israeli border towns do you. Who cares what everyone else says, it's time to quit being politically correct and bending over to taking one up the rear. Walton and Johnson the radio guys have come up with a good phrase for it, "the pussification of America".

Sure we could, but there is no point. Iran is not a threat to us. They could become a threat to our allies in the region, and we must be ready to act, but right now they are a pipsqueak third-world country that is talking big. We need to wait for the right time . . . and that time may never come.

Pakistan already has nuclear weapons, the missiles to deliver them, a restless islamist population that is anti-American and they have been protecting Osama bin Ladin and the Al Qaida core leadership for four years now.

Iran is another distraction that can be ignored for the present. Pakistan can become a far bigger problem much sooner than Iran.
