That's what I thought. I thought in the other post you were saying he lived on campus until very recently. But I was pretty sure he lived off campus last year.
Would you rather us be known as a program that is diligent about oversight and forthright with the NCAA on violations, or would you rather hush it up to prevent bad publicity and hope nobody comes digging? I think we know GT, USC and Ohio State's answers right now.
I guess that's OK as long as he's not getting paid for his cervixes....er services.. Seriously, all this indicates the complete lack of ethics in journalism. What ever happened too requiring two separate, independent sources corroborating each other??? I guess ethics doesn't apply to facebook and twitter. Gilbeau may be right, but...seriously...an educated guess? Gilbeau thinks highly of himself. Why didn't he just use the term "wild a$$ guess". When it comes to sports media, gossip and rumor mongering passes as journalism ...as long as it sells advertisement. :dis:. I don't care at all about what Gilbeau and ESPN speculate...I care about what the NCAA thinks.
No, I would rather it not exist. What the hell kinda question is this? Being good at handling issues doesn't make issues non-existant. I'm proud of the way LSU handled the Hicks/McArthy deal...but that doesn't make it a blessing that it happened. LSU handled it as well as it could be handled, and yet we're on probation. Couple that with...LATER THE SAME WEEK...another issue, that I'm sure LSU will handle properly again. Sugar coat it how you will...but MY concern is that, no matter how it's handled, we have our name in the news again in a negative light, the same week we were placed on probation. Triple it with the Lyles allegations...it ain't good. Again, no matter HOW well it's handled by LSU compliance. I don't give a rat's hind end about GT/USC/tOSU, bro. I'm an LSU fan...period.
Dude, chill. What am I sugar coating again? I would rather this not happen either, but it did. I wish the timing were better, too, but it wasn't. To expect issues like this to not exist at all for a program that generates this much revenue is unrealistic. We don't even know what did or didn't happen with Shepard yet. We don't know what did or didn't happen with Lyles yet. That's for the NCAA to determine, so let's all take a deep breath. Yes, our name is in the news for the wrong reasons. And there's not a damn thing we can do about that. To echo Steve's point, what matters is what the NCAA thinks, not what a bunch of reporters desperate for a story think. All I'm saying is in an imperfect world, the choice is between bad and worse. Bad is self-reporting a potential eligibility problem at the same time the media is already dragging you through the mud. Worse is keeping things quiet for now and having the NCAA snoop around your program to dig up the skeletons.
OK, so tell me where in my original post did I say, insinuate, or imply that I wish we would have kept anything hush hush. My point was simply this... I wish this wasn't an issue. Period. Whether or not there is any legitimacy to the reports/speculation/wild rumors. And to be very clear, once again...I don't give a rat's arse about GT/USC/tOSU. I'm an LSU fan. I never insinuated I wished LSU would have kept it quiet.
Just for the record...the story has now hit CBSSports.com and NBCSports.com, citing "LSU's Shephard situation reportedly a compliance issue." Just a matter of time before ESPN picks it up and continues their public bashing of LSU. I agree...this, coupled with McCarthy, coupled with Lyles, coupled with the Peterson speculation is a big bag of no good. No being chicken little, but way, way, way too much bad pub for LSU.
My point exactly. FWIW, I believe the Shep situation is about equal to the Ridley situation. FWIW, I believe the Lyles situation is a non issue. FWIW, ditto on the Peterson issue...non issue. BUT...still bad pub at a bad time. Fall camp in less than TWO WEEKS! Can't wait!
Fair enough. I only brought up the hush-hush aspect since it seemed like you were the most upset with the media coverage. If it has to happen, get it out in the open as soon as possible. If it later turns out to be a media mountain made out of a molehill, then it makes them look even more idiotic. Les has already single-handedly made fools out of ESPN and Pelican Sports.
