Hmmm, I'll take a wild guess and say the multiple people making this point would be satisfied IF an answer/excuse had ever been given. If has been raised several times by multiple people, probably means it is a valid point.
Funny you use LaFell as an example with Bow cause if you look at Lafell's soph numbers they were actually better than Bowe's soph year. Despite everyone's perception of Lafell, he was better than perceived.
Which is why we only crossed the 50 yard line once in the BCS title game. Everyone knows how good Alabama's defense is. They made adjutsments for that game and we didn't. Not to mention we only made one first down the first half of the SEC championship game.
I'm not taking anything away from Lafell at all. I thought he was a great receiver which is why he is a big target at the Carolina Panthers. Kids got game but he had his problems as well. Quarterbacks are only as good as their receivers and vice versa. I understand you can have 7 on 7 drills all you want but if the receivers don't get action during games it limits their growth as a player. Practice makes perfect but productivity makes a players maturity.
Plain and simple: Shep has to improve his hands/catching. Great kid, great attitude, great ambassador for LSU but to realize his potential he will have to learn to catch the football on a consistent basis. I am pulling for him to have a break out year.
Yes. Yes I did. Because that would be sarcasm/a joke. You and I are in total agreement about his utter incompetence at developing QBs. But I'm actually curious now about what made Crowton an above-average playcaller considering we had about 200 delay penalties a game and did very few things well across all offensive units.
Well, I disagree. Reuben Randle and Odell Beckham had no issues catching passes from two horrible QBs last season. The WRs did not make the QBs. LSU QBs have had issues with the WRs in the past as well, despite their obvious talents. Each player should be judged on their own merits, but too many LSU fans like to generalize by position.
That's not the case as much as you may think. There was some blocking scheme changes by the LSU offense that were extremely different in Jan. vs Nov. As one example, on the running plays/option plays, in Nov. the goal was to take the OLB out on the playside. In Jan., that focus was blocking in ILB and allowing the OLB free. ---------- Back to the subject at hand: From an opposing defenses point of view, I don't see any just dismissing Shepard when he's in the slot. Receptions don't completely define impact of players. In a sense, it can be compared to a down field threat. You can have a player that runs several go routes and doesn't have a reception to show for the effort. BUT, if that same player is beating the corner on those routes, even if it ends in an incompletion it'll cause opposing defensive coordinators to make in-game adjustments.
