Randall should be moved to safety. We have a hole at SS and Randall had good speed and is 6-2 220. He knows the passing game, which would help. Randall is not an SEC caliber quarterback. He should move to SS or move to SU.

I don't know about you but I always thought accurate passing was kind of important for quarterbacks. Mauck's passing was a little better than Randall and Mauck handled the position better from a poise and athletic standpoint. That being said, I hope if one of the freshmen is an accurate passer, they get a shot at the starting job. It is not rocket science. Herb Tyler did it. A lot of freshmen have started at quarterback over the years at major colleges.

i agree about accuracy, duh. My favorite QB/player of all time is Montana. But I disagree with your comment about being a freshman QB is easy. It's hard for these kids to come in here and learn the playbook in a few weeks. I also don't see one of the true freshmen being the starter anytime during the season. I certainly hope Mauck will play better than that.

It wasn't a championship year. You don't get away with starting a freshman QB very often.

We have a potential championship team here. Mauck and Randall have already gone through their freshman, dumb-ass foul-ups. We don't need to throw in a freshman and go through that again. Bringing these frosh along slowly is the road to multiple championships. One or two big mistakes this year and we've got losses we can't afford.

I want to see the freshmen, too. But not too soon!

    Re: Re: Re: quarterbacks

Funny. The word over here in Texas is one of the Freshmen will be played 2nd team QB. We have three - Russell, Flynn and Richard. My guess is Saban is going to play Richard, if he is going to play a freshman. He knows the system beter than the other two; however, LSU's O is easy to pick up compared to the D. It might be one of the other two.

We still have many holes to fix and another great recruiting year will make us a top 5 program. Saban is the best coach I've seen at LSU and I've seen a few.

    ..

I believe we went 7-4 that year. Something tells me you would be upset with 7-4 this year.

If any qb takes over the starting job from Mauck this year, it will be because we are having a sh$t season or Mauck got injured.

sorry for the rude comment, I was at work and I'm tired of hearing that Randall NEEDS to be moved to Safety. Randall will be the 2nd QB, that might change during the season though. I kind of forgot about Ricard, but I don't think he will ever be our starter. But right now all this is a crapshoot, but it gets me more fired up for the first game. I hope to see one of the 2 freshmen get some snaps in that game.

    Re: ..

thats completely diffrent....that was the first year away from the curley hallman years...we werent going to win more than 7 games that year anyway....Herb came in mid season and did a damn good job...and the losses we did have werent his fault.

a lot of what yall are saying is faulty logic.... Herb started as a freshman and we were 7-4-1.....and we were 7-4-1 because we had a freshman starting at QB...but nobody mentions that when Herb was a senior we finished 4-7

the whole "freshman cant start at QB" is just complete BS...there are LOTS of QBs who start as freshmen. do a short internet search and you will see...tell you what...just look at this past years NFL draft...most of the QBs drafted started as freshmen.

and of course there will always be more upperclassmen playing QB...for one....youre looking at one year vs three years...so theres going to be less freshmen than anyone else...and then add in the obvious....so thats a faulty way of looking at it.

check out all the starting QBs around the country and i promise you a chunk of them started as freshmen.

i cant find the link im looking for...but off the top of my head

Chris Simms, Byron Leftwich, Carson Palmer, Kyle Boller, Ken Dorsey all played as freshmen....there are more, but thats all i can say off the top of my head.

just get on a search engine and type in "starting freshmen QBs" and you will see what i mean.
