No the main point of the column was that the alarmist media is spreading falsehoods. I don't think anyone is against the costs of attempting to fix the "global warming problem" if there is one.

Talk about someone not reading the articles provided. Or burying their heads when faced with evidence.

Ok, I read the article again and NOWHERE in it does George Will say "the alarmist media is spreading falsehoods". What he said was:

"The National Academy of Sciences says the rise in the Earth's surface temperature has been about one degree Fahrenheit in the past century. Did 85 percent of Americans notice? Of course not. They got their anxiety from journalism calculated to produce it."

He doesn't say that the scientists are wrong. He just says that the media is over-anxious about it.

    His main conclusion was:

"Suppose the Earth is warming and suppose the warming is caused by human activity. Are we sure there will be proportionate benefits from whatever climate change can be purchased at the cost of slowing economic growth and spending trillions? "

And it is a valid point.

He also discussed how 20 years ago the earth was cooling....now it's warming.

What does that tell you? That maybe it's a natural cycle.....hmmmmm?

maybe you should correct mr will, and remind him that we don't need to "suppose" anything, because according to red it is already decided that warming is attributable to human activity.

also note mr will's final sentence:

"Perhaps the problem is big crusading journalism."

i guess you diagree with him there too, because you are the one linking to the time magazine scare stories and helping spread the crusade.

I didn't decide this, it was decided by:

the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)
the National Academy of Sciences (NSA)
    the American Meteorological Society (AMS)
    the American Geophysical Union (AGU)
and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS)

I simply recognize the consensus of the experts, which you have decided to ignore.

What are you afraid of reading? Must I point out to you that I am not a "big crusading journalist" and that George Will is.

Not exactly, what he said was that 30 years ago "the media" reported that the world might be cooling and now "the media" is reporting the opposite.

    What I have said is:

    1. The "experts" have had 30 years of additional data and more sophisticated analysis techniques to reach the conclusions that they agree on today. The media only reports on it, and yes they are sometimes too sensationalistic about it. Such is the nature of their business. But this doesn't make the experts wrong.

    2. There are natural cycles, but they are cycles with spans of 10's of thousands of years. Within these natural cycles, it has been determined by the authoritative reports I cited above, that there is a clear human-induced element to the global warming that has occurred since the dawn of the industrial age and it is increasing on an exponential curve.

    Problem here is Red:

It's easy to talk about large, traumatic periods of either coolness or hotness. Like an ice age around the year 1000. OK, so we can see that and say we had an ice age around the year 1000.

But what you have here is a group of scientists saying we are in a devastating, world-ending, continient flooding, "The Day After Tomorrow" type of an event based a half of a degree increase.......and those are based on very inaccurate temp data for the past 2 centuries. Accurate temp. data was not kept until around the start of the 20th century or later......more like the 1930's actually.

So, to look at the ice caps slowly melting, or the corral reef in the Bahamas drying up and saying man is creating this is a stretch........and mainly because we don't have accurate temp. data to reflect on. Who knows what the relative temp of the Indian Ocean was 150 years ago.........

The truth is NO ONE knows. They are guessing and before we turn all of our manfacturing off and return the stone ages, I'd kinda like to be sure ya know? Peace Out on this topic.

OK then there was human induced impact on the ice age in the year 1,000. And T-rex induced warming spell in the Jurassic.

There are also hundreds of respected scientists who disagree that global warming is occuring at all.

Oh, I forgot though, those are paid for by EXXON. My bad. Keep waiting for the worst and I'll keep driving my SUV and leaving the fridge door open.

I'm still waiting on the sources that you think can document this. That sure was a short Peace Out.

You can have the last acerbity, counselor. But it is unlikely to influence a skeptical old cynic like me.

OK, if you're the skeptical old cynic, then what the hell am I? You're the one who says it's real.....that makes me the cynic.

I wrote the Peace Out, then thought I'd throw one more blurb. Now it's Peace Out Brother!
