We had 125 gross rushing yards in 38 attempts. That's 3.3 a carry. IMO we're going to need a much better effort against the Gators. We aren't going to hang 35 on them in the first half. If by chance we do I'll be back to eat a seven course crow meal Cajun style  cajdav1 raised an excellent point about our pass protection. Obviously there's a difference in technique between pass & run blocking. How can we excel at pass blocking and be sub par in my eyes in run blocking?
the sky ain't falling yet folks. i swear some of you would be pi$$ed if $10.00 bills were falling from the sky 'cause they weren't $20.00 bills. I sauntered over to the stats page on cbs sportsline and it looks like the Tigers are currently 4th in rushing in the SEC and today's numbers aren't posted yet. the Tigers will be ok.
This is third third year that we have seen this. Stacy Searles' offensive lines have all been excellent pass blockers but substandard on run blocking. This has to change. We need some big run-blocking new recruits and we need a better blocking schemes up front. And Arnold, our best offensive lineman, left the field with a badly sprained ankle.
Yeah, when you have a steady O-line, those big bruser type backs like Scott and Alley wreak havoc on a defense. If you don't have a consistant run-blocking O-line, a speed back is probably your best bet.
There are holes there but the backs have to hit them. They don't stay open all day. Arnold has been hurt all year and this is a relatively experienced O-Line. We had 446 total yards and the game was over in the 2nd quarter. I still fail to see what the problem is.
I have been watching this line closely and the holes are not always there and when they appear they don't stay open very long at all. I know good run blocking when I see it and I just ain't seeing it. The problem is that we have blown away four of the worst teams in the country, but we haven't scored a single TD against a team with a winning record. We are playing another top-10 team on the road next week, did you forget? We're talking football here SF. Nobody is calling for coaches to be fired or quarterbacks to be benched. But LSU does have some weaknesses and I think a couple of them will be a problem next week.
i remember a team LSU played on new years day a couple of years ago that had a less than stellar running game. they did ok . at this point in the season the running attack has proved to be merely adequate, BUT adequate enough to offset a remarkable passing attack. until our oline gets better this will continue.
But as Red wrote, its been merely adequate against inferior opposition excluding Auburn. If we continue to rack up yards and points throwing the ball against the meat of our upcoming SEC schedule, I'll take it.
