We should build a big parking area across the river from T.S. And open "Tiger" ferry service (people not auto's)

I just don't think we'll see this happen Red, and believe it only happens in the NFL/NBA/MLB because the owners can hold the cities hostage, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But colleges don't have anyone to threaten with moving in order to get a new stadium built.

And building a new Tigah Stadium would cost one hell of a lot of money.

Jean Dean calculated that it would be cheaper than building end-zone upper decks on the old structure.

Red, most of what you are saying makes sense. But that last sentence seems a little crazy. The west side upper renovation cost about $50 million. To build the east side in 2000 cost right at $50 million. To close off the south is a smaller area, although curved, still smaller. You looking at $100 million at the absolute most.

How would that get you a whole 100,000 seat new stadium?

I didn't make the estimates, Joe had a contractor do it and details were not released. But it was comparing the adding of north, east, and south upper decks to a circa 1990 Tiger Stadium to make a complete upper deck ring (120,000 seats) and building a new stadium (100,000+ seats) - . . . and the new Tiger Stadium was cheaper, much nicer, and had better parking and more premium seats for bringing in income. Fans just aren't willing to pay top dollar donations for seats that are high, far from the field, and behind the goals, certainly not $50,000 skyboxes.

What people don't consider is just how bad the condition of the older parts of the stadium are. The lower bowl will have to be replaced in the next 20-40 years for structural reasons, tradition be damned. And its going to be expensive because the new upper decks are in the way. If the north and south end zones are enclosed by upper decks, there will be no way at to demolish the old lower bowl with also demolishing one of the upper decks to get equipment in.

It just doesn't make much economic sense to expand Tiger Stadium. It would never pay for itself. We have one of the oldest stadiums in the SEC and one of the oldest BIG stadiums in the country. We are not the only school that will be forced to replace big, old stadiums in coming decades. We definitely should NOT be the last.

No i completely agree with every point you made. TS is old. It is falling apart. I think the lower bowl will be replaced one section at a time. I dont think closing off the ends is a good idea. Im even not completely opposed to a new TS, as long as it brings a lot from the old one with it.

i just think a new stadium being cheaper is WAYY far from the truth. That new stadium being built in dallas is a $1 Billion stadium!

Side note: There isnt enough room to build a north or south upper. On the south side, South Stadium Dr. would have to go through the supports for the upper deck. And there are like 15 oak trees that would have to be killed.. With the way the hippies are around LSU, and LSU's endow an oak program, those trees are staying put.

The north side.... PSH, the ONLY way possible would be to completely remove the road, and then Mike's cage and the PMAC are still in the way. That one is pretty much impossible
