I'm really confused by this Red. It seems you don't understand the redzone statics I posted at all. Btw, My source is cfbstats.com - College Football Statistics. I'm not ignoring his legs, the stats I'm using are TOTAL redzone stats, meaning including rushing and passing TD's. We score more TD's and total scores in redzone with Lee in at QB than JJ. Period. I'm even being more kind to JJ by leaving Lee's redzone scores in from last season. Last years stats would look even WORSE compared to this years if I took Lee's out. What my statics prove is that JJ's running ability in the redzone is not as much of a factor as you like to think they are. We are actually LESS productive in the redzone with JJ. Yes he can run, but a small increase at running at QB does not outweigh the simple fact that our offense just works better when the RB's run, and the QB's throw. I'd like to think JJ is an asset, but the truth is statics prove he's not when in the redzone. He's actually a detriment.
I'm having a difficult time understanding what you mean by "In 2009 we were 87% in the redzone and out all our redzone scores we scored a TD 60% of the time." in response to "One that can run or pass is just plain better." I see team statistics there, not individual statistics. Where do you get Jefferson's and Lee's redzone stats? 87% redzone success is a detriment?
Miles is a big believer in continuity as are the rest of us. That said, how do you bring in JJ and disrupt the continuity in the middle of the season. I just don't see it.
I think it all comes down to the fact that LEE is a "Team player" ... JJ seemed to be all about him. If a WR dropped a pass ... JJ had that look on his face ... like "come on man". Only selfish people whine and bitch about everyone else being the problem. Lee, OTOH, has been in the position that it was his fault ... no look of disgusts with his teamates ... he's the leader, and he took the fall. It's a matter of Maturity .... and that is something you can't teach .. you have to grow into it. I don't support redshirting him .. I say put him on the team, and let him be the backup with the occassional play, and get him out of here so he can go be the "STAR" that I know he thinks he is. Mett is just too dang good to waste on another year of JJ trying to figue out who he is, .. or what he's supposed to be doing. Further, I think the current Offense is what CLM had in mind all along. I don't think CLM ever had his heart into this running QB stuff ... he's an old school Michigan Man .. .they were pure power play. He has a team that is playing CLM brand of football .. I can't see him screwing that up.
please God, no redshirt for JJ I will be pissed to think he would beat out a much better option in Mett
I think the only controversy is in the fans’ minds. Miles will put the best team players on the field. Lee is leading the team in ways JJ never did – everyone sees that. According to the article, JJ not only broke curfew, but tried to hide his involvement (whatever it was) from Miles. I think JJ has a long road to get in playing shape and win back the confidence of Miles. As far as starting QB – that position is JL’s to lose, not JJ’s to win. ldskule:
Nope .. the one who can LEAD is the Best. .. the rest of it is just hand waving. This is where Jarrett Lee throws JJ to the mat! JJ is no leader .. .and you can't "coach" leadership. .. it's something that comes with maturity, which is another attribute that can't be coached .... you grow into it. I've not once seen JLee with that disgusting look on his face towards one of his teamates who just dropped a pass [as I saw multiple times last year on JJ's face]. He is always the positive leader, encouraging and LEADING. Leadership is what allows one to operate under pressure .. NOT ONCE last year, or the year before did JJ perform under pressure. If the game is not comfortably close .. he crumbles.
...and then I see JJ riding the pine for most of the game, having started JL every time. JJ will then be a senior reserve QB with experience and legs/red zone options/etc. But please, please, CLM, the present chemistry is the best in years. Circumstance has placed JL into the center of this fantastic engine; allow him to run on all cylinders for the duration.
