Red, I stole your line and used it in the comments section of the WAPO article on this incredible story. Got the illusive ROTFLMAO comment in response. Thanks!
I'm 4% Native American, Just to round out the non-European side of the family. But I don't look Indian either and I don't identify as Indian. Heap big nonsense.
Red if your 'English' ancestors came from northern England or are Anglo Norman the Scandinavian part fits. Remember the Vikings invaded and controlled much from York on and William the Conqueror grandfather was a Norseman Louis the Fat of France gave Normandy to protect Paris from Viking raids.
More than that. Only the Celtic Welsh are native to Britain. The invading Anglo-Saxons were Scandanavian, the invading Vikings were Scandinavian, and the invading Normans were Scandinavian. The Northern Irish and the Scots are also Scandinavian. England and Scotland are genetically Scandinavian countries.
I couldn't even begin to try to figure out the number of nationalities from which I hail. My material grandfather was 100% Cajun from St. Mary Parish and had a family tree that traced both sides of his family to Nova Scotia and France before that. My maternal grandmother was a Walker from Texas; they have lineage traced back to Tennessee in the very early 1800's before moving to Texas before the Civil War (they were Scotch-Irish.) As for my dad's side of the family? I have NO idea, really. My children are much more complicated than that. My husband is only the 3rd generation in America on his dad's side of the family. Hence, our having an 0 apostrophe last name. His father and two brothers are red-headed with freckles. Neither of my daughters have red hair or the super light skin tone. My husband's mom certainly has a lot of Native American; she looks exactly like one. So, my husband looks more like that, with black hair and brown eyes. I figure in a few more generations, there really won't be much white skin at all. Aren't blondes/blue eyes dying out? I have blue eyes, but my daughters have dark brown eyes, etc.
