Alright McAvoy. Try being more positive and optimistic. The truth is, you can't do anything about the direction of our society for better or worse in any meaningful quantity so try to enjoy your life and do the best you can. I'm afraid the news is going to give you a heart attack.
I guess what I am suggesting is that what ethnicity people choose to identify with and what people perceive about others is kind of irrelevant now that physical appearance is not the most accurate way of making ethnic distinctions. Obama is perceived as black and identifies as black, yet 50% of his DNA is European. His mother was 100% European and his father was 100% African. Virtually all African-Americans have European genes, many of them way over 50%. It is entirely possible to be genetically European for the most part yet appear to be black. African genes are closer to the genetic root stock and their physical characteristics are dominant. Ethnically I am 90% English, but genetically I am 80% Scandinavian. Like many southern whites, I have Sub-Saharan African genes (1%). It is confirmed in my genealogy . . . an English colonial ancestor of mine in Virginia in the 17th century married "a woman named Weltha, said to be a mullatto." I couldn't pass for black if my life depended on it. I look like Hagar the Horrible. If the "one-drop" rule were valid, I would be a negro viking and eligible for Affirmative Action. I am going to be considered white and I identify white for very good reasons. I do have rhythm, though.
I have had my DNA checked several times. I am almost all English, Scandinavian, and a lot of Russia. Less than 4% Spanish, though it was not called spanish, can't remember. More interestingly, the National Geo deal, a separate test, tracked the paths ancestors took. My peeps went up to Moscow area for a long time, instead of making a left coming out of the Levant. They mulled around there for many thousand years, before getting with the program and heading to western Europe, arriving about the time the Neanderthal's ceased to exist. As a result, and contrary to popular opinion, I have very little Neanderthal DNA. According to National Geo, the norm is 2%. Having said all that, the DNA all goes back to Africa in the beginning, so it does not matter, at least genetically. While nature is pretty much common, nurture is where the great divisions in our society are bred!
