Well, that's what Dale Brown did when Lester Earl wanted to transfer. No release. So Earl just went to the NCAA and promised to get dirt on LSU recruting if they would waive release and allow him to transfer to Kansas immediately. They agreed so he went out and asked a booster for 5 grand, got it and then squealed to the NCAA and got LSU on probation.

When a player wants to go, you just let him go. Why spite Neltner for trying to better himself? What the hell does it gain LSU? It could hurt LSU a lot. If he wants to be gone, we don't need him, a disgruntled player is worse than no player at all. If we make life difficult for him, we better be damned clean (and every booster there is) or an angry kid can just make all of a team's dirty laundry very public.

Damn!!! More disappointing news from Bradyland. Neltner reminded me a lot of Luke Walton (Arizona). I though he brought a lot of control to the court and was becoming much more of a pressence. LSU will have zero bench next year. Good grief.

Fans who say that Tasmin Mitchell is coming in next year, and Bass is staying, therefore, Neltner wouldn't get much playing time anyway, are missing the point. Brady's biggest drawback IMHO is failure to retain players. You aren't ultimately going to win squat unless you have some team continuity, some experienced players, and a bench. Losing Neltner hurts. No, he's not a superstar. But it's like we have to start over every year. In the old days you had guys playing together 4 or 5 years -- Macklin, Cook, Martin, etc. You would have a new recruit come in, and fit in nicely with the old hands -- like a Leonard Mitchell or Howard Carter. And you had a guy like Willie Sims who could come off the bench and provide quality playing time. So it would be like, for example, LSU having an awesome recruit like Swat Mitchell coming into the fold, but, losing Sims, and, say, Cook. You're taking one step forward and two steps back. I am tired of players quitting the team. Frankly, it does not speak well for Brady. Sorry. What else can anyone conclude? No, he shouldn't be fired now, but, I think we're getting pretty near that point. I'm not one to lightly say "fire the coach" but if I were Skip Bertman I'd be talking to Neltner and finding out why he's leaving.:nope:

You know something, WTF happened to the days when these kids would be called exactly what they are... QUITTERS!

Growing up I was on hundreds of teams with hundreds of coaches in dozens of sports. I was fortunate to have parents who signed me up, drove me around, and supported me as I played sports virtually year-round for the better part of my childhood. I loved playing sports, but it wasn't always fun and every now and then I would end up on a team I didn't exactly like with a coach who I couldn't stand and a personnel situation that didn't bode well for me. Sometimes I wanted to quit.

I saw kids quit every year - they were unhappy so they quit. Most just stopped showing up. Any time I wanted to quit my father would not allow it. He taught me about what it means to make a commitment. He taught me what it means to be part of a team. He taught me about the importance of following through on your word. He taught me about the difference between winners and losers, and he never mentioned anything about the coach, the score, or the other players. Winners don't walk away from their team. Winners don't go back on their commitments. Winners follow through on their word.

    WINNERS NEVER QUIT!

I don't care who the coach is and I don't care what the circumstances are (short of a Matt Stoltz situation), these kids may be "transferring" in the eyes of the NCAA, but they are all quitting in my book. I don't wish Ross Neltner or any other player any ill will, but I will call them what they are... QUITTERS.

We have to hear every freaking day about how Ross Neltner was Mr. Kentucky in basketball and how UK and Louisville didn't offer him. Well, guess who did?

It's like divorce, it's too easy these days. Of course marriage is too easy as well but that's another story.

Neltner improved this year and probably should have played more. If he cotinues to improve he should be a pretty good college player by the time he is a senior, too bad it won't be for LSU. I think next year with his experience he would have got more time, now we have a bench full of unproven players.

Is this like the 14th or something player to leave LSU under Brady?

that's a good point -- a little loyalty might have been warranted from Ross N. to LSU. However, they say don't judge a man til you've walked a mile in his shoes. If Neltner were the only player to "quit" you'd have a stronger argument. However, wouldn't you agree that there is a definite pattern of players leaving Brady's program? Are they all "quitters"? Maybe so, i don't know. Each player had his own set of circumstances, be he Ross Neltner, Shawnson Johnson, Tim Bush, etc. etc. etc. But at some point, with SO many players leaving, you have to legitimately ask if the problem might be with Brady?
