"After a dominating 49-17 win over Illinois in the 2008 Rose Bowl, it's not a stretch to say that 11-2 USC is the best team in the nation -- and one that should be playing for the BCS title." on the CFB ESPN page... who didn't see this one coming? Bet they get quite a few 1st place votes in the AP if LSU wins...
I can't wait. USC and Ohio State have been the two most dominant programs over the last 5 years. That game is going to be one for the ages. And yes, then they play each other the year after that, from what uscvball and the OSU fans on here have said.
I'd have to say that USC did look good, though I don't think they have any legitimate claim to this year's BSCC, or AP. They were fast and physical on defense, tackled well and played a tremendously good offensive game. I would say that Illinois would've had to play a great game to beat them, which they definitely did not. that said, the illini had some opportunities at the start of the second half to get back into the game, and failed to capitalize. If, and I know that word sucks, they had closed the gap to 21-17, it could've changed the complexion of the game, as far as momentum is concerned at least. Very excited about the start of the home and home next year with USC, though I think both teams could look a little different by then.
Not nearly enough votes to make much more than a quiet little cough. In contrast I heard two Georgia players make comments that sounded like this, "we deserve to be in the NC game next week", and, "we are the best team in the country, no doubt". I say they will end the year ranked #2 regardless of the NC game outcome and will start next season ranked #1.
Now that is very interesting prediction. As for myself, last year, after OSU got humiliated by Florida, and LSU beat down super-hyped Charlie Weis, I thought LSU would have been given the #2 spot, but they gave it to OSU instead (and put LSU #3). So, if LSU wins on the 7th, I won't be surprised if we see a repeat from last year, with OSU given the #2 spot in the final poll. As for next year's rankings, I wouldn't be surprised to see Georgia #1 (I thought they would win the SEC this year). But USC has a good shot at starting next season #1 as well. What rank do you think USC will start next season?
Don't know. We still have a lot of players returning (although I believe Maualuga may decide to change his mind and go pro after tonight) but we'll have a relatively new QB and a WR group that struggled this year. I'd put USC at 4.
knowing that USC will have talent to step in, including Sanchez, who I don't know a ton about (little help there uscvball?), herbie seems to be big on him. Haven't really started scouting USC yet, what graduation/NFL losses they deal with seems like it would dictate whether they start the year at one, as i i also heard that mentioned. Unfortunately, I think GA was in the lose, lose, situation that some USC fans have mentioned with regard to Illinois. Would've been nice to see these teams play each other, though i thought illinois would have showed up a little better.
