https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...-calls-balls-and-strikes-pro-game/1702431001/ Here's how the new balls and strikes technology works: An official in the press box monitors a laptop running the TrackMan radar system that electronically determines balls and strikes. That information is immediately relayed to the umpire using a wireless earpiece. The pitches are tracked through a large Doppler radar screen high above home plate. The radar system measures a player's height and creates a strike zone. No doubt, the change will take a while for pitchers and hitters to adjust. The umpire wears an ear piece to hear the call determined by the TrackMan radar system, July 10, 2019. Atkins seemed unsure about it after throwing his one inning on Wednesday. He said it will take a while to adjust to getting high and low strikes called in his favor. Same for a truer but tighter strike zone on inside and outside pitches. He also noticed a delay in balls and strikes calls that fans may have not.
I saw something about a week or so ago where the batter had like a 1-0 count, maybe it was 0-1. The thing is it wasn't 3 and anything. That is important because the pitcher sails one to the backstop and the batter hauls ass to 1st base. WTF
New experiment with the rules, catcher misses one, batter can run to first in the Atlantic league... same league experimenting with robo ump.
After a 16 inning game the other night some moron came up with the idea that whem a game goes to extra innings each team would start a new inning with a runner on second base. LEAVE BASEBALL ALONE!
Called an International tie-breaker aka “ITB” in softball- copy cats. Only recall it used in tournaments though.
Can’t imagine them implementing it. It’s used for time reasons in tournaments/tournament teams. I’d be pissed if I was in a team where it was to end a game that had regular season schedule implications.
Already adopted in minor leagues, wbc and the all-star game a couple years ago. Embarrassing. Free runner bullshit.
