Don't bet the ranch on this since the reports are sketchy but it APPEARS that Bolden will NOT count against the scholarship limit either for past signing period or even the 85 limit. I was wondering about that since just because someone is allowed to leave Penn State immediately and be eligible, how many teams are under the yearly limit AND the overall limit...probably not many. What appears to be the case is that Bolden would count against the Fall 2013 total scholarship limit. Not sure that is true but certainly would be logical. Although it gives those teams a "free extra player", it really is the practical way to ensure that someone who wants to leave PSU due to the severe penalties has a legitimate place to go. And there also might be a limit of 1 PSU transfer per customer/university also.

BTW, I may have seen one of the funniest comments this year from the PSU AD. So far, I believe they have lost Bolden to LSU, Redd the RB to USC, a redshirted safety to NC State, and the TE to somebody. The PSU AD said, "it is a testament to O'Brien that the vast majority of players will end up staying." Oooooorrrr.......oooooorrrr, it could just be that teams are pretty much full up despite the free extra player AND that not that many of the Penn State players are that good. Nah, it couldn't be that. :)

I'm not sure what time frame you are speaking of but here is my understanding. After the 2010 season, he went to Paterno to get permission to transfer. Paterno denied him that and held him to his scholarship. BTW, what up with that???? A coach can take away a scholarship but the player has to get permission to transfer? Huh???? Anyway, after the 2011 season, he made it clear that he was leaving Penn State...it has come out that he contacted LSU MONTHS ago. At that point is when O'Brien put him 3rd on the depth chart (bold move, O'Brien ) or maybe 4th below Caspar the Friendly Ghost since both had the same chance on being on the roster. :D Anyway, after the penalties of course, the coach has no say anymore. All players were automatically released from their scholarships if any wanted to be and several have obviously moved on...minimum of 4, probably more than haven't hit the headlines.

I figured as much, just wasn't sure. Penn State should bulldoze those showers BTW, how awkward for future recruits!......."this is our practice facility, this is our weight room ohhhhh and here's the showers".

Why? Have you seen him play? Don't you think our coaching staff can evaluate talent?

Yes I have seen him play, and lets not forget that they felt Jefferson was a starting caliber SEC QB. Not that Lee was any better but the QB play has not been a strong part of the team for a while. As a matter of fact I would say QB as a whole has been the least talented position group since Les was hired, with that being said it makes his success that much more impressive since QB is considered the most important player on the field
