Auburn's full court pressure made LSU look uncomfortable at times, causing 18 turnovers

"Auburn's 1-2-2 (defense) really disrupted us and they were able to get some turnovers," said Caldwell. "That led to easy baskets. Our inability to take care of the basketball gave them the momentum that they needed."

"Auburn played hard and fought back, but I was proud of our team for hanging in there," said LSU head coach Nikki Caldwell. "We have shown determination and even when our backs are against the wall in a clutch situation, we were able to pull out a win."

 

Tennessee knocked out Florida. Florida is now 3-46 all time (06%) against against Tennessee, including 0-9 all-time against Tennessee in the SEC Tournament. UF falls to 0-8 this season against ranked opponents.

 

notes on the LSU v Auburn game last night:

Auburn turned the ball over 10 times in the first half, leading to 16 LSU points. But Auburn turned the tables in the second half, scoring 14 points off 11 LSU turnovers.

Auburn forced LSU into 18 total turnovers, giving Auburn 629 forced turnovers for the season which ranks 7th in school history.

With the win, Nikki Caldwell secured the fourth 20-win season in her five years as a collegiate head coach, her second with the Tigers.

The win was the seventh-consecutive for LSU, dating back to Feb. 10.

 

Auburn coach on the game last night:

"I thought they gave a great effort in the second half, it just took too long to play," said Auburn head coach Terri Williams-Flournoy. "If we'd have come with that same type of intensity at the start of the game, we wouldn't have been in the situation."

"I told them in the locker room we had to attack the basket, we were just standing out there settling for jump shots," said Williams-Flournoy. "Every game that they've won, teams have just stood out there and shot jump shots, and that's how they lose the ballgame. We had to attack the basket and get to the free throw line."

"I told them in the locker room at halftime that we had to play for the name on the front of our jerseys," said Williams-Flournoy. "We had fans to come down, we had our administration here. You have to show our fans and administration some effort. They worked extremely hard to help us get to where we are, and you're not even playing hard. That's not who we are. That's not what we do."

The Georgia coach on the parity in the SEC this season:

"I think overall you can say that the Southeastern Conference has five of the top 15 teams in the country. That's going to make this weekend extremely competitive. But it doesn't stop there. I think all of those five teams have been beaten by someone else in our conference. There are a lot of teams in this league that I believe are separated by just a couple of points. It's the way its always been and it's tough. I think it's a great measure of a team's grit and their ability to focus. If you're going to play night in and night out, you have to be very focused and you have to be physically and mentally tough because it is a grind."

Georgia is 21-18 overall against LSU, including a 5-3 mark in SEC Tournament competition.
